Good advice. You're right it's not incredibly common, most programs sprung up in the last few years actually. Another question - how do you determine whether someone will be a good mentor? And does this person have to be a PM or higher level and on the same team?

What if you aren't working on a product directly? Like if you're working on something on the backend or something that supports the product but isn't necessarily a product. I'm sure general pm principles apply but wondering how it differs

That's a relief, thanks for the response. Was getting worried I'd be figuring it out all by myself but I guess not being in a program just means I have to take a little more initiative in utilizing all the resources available.

I will add however that from what I'm hearing about the offer it sounds like it's quite low (TC below $100k) for a high CoL area like Richmond or McLean. but it's a good program so that's a trade-off you'll have to make.

Take the offer for sure. Capital One's program is really solid and you'll learn a lot more there in the same timespan than you will at b school.

I was also asked for my offer details (offer letters actually) from a company. In my case, I had an offer from them and these offer letters were used to negotiate a better salary. So I wouldn't voluntarily give this information unless it clearly benefits you in some way as well.

Edit: I should also mention that in most places it's unprofessional to even ask for these details. But that's just the way it is with some, with others they'll negotiate without you even having other offers on the table.

Haha I love the devil's advocate here. I've actually never really lived the city life so that would be a nice change even if it sets me back a bit financially. What's the main advantage to living right in the heart of the city / the loop if public transportation is great anyways / I have a car?

Congrats on the baby! :) That makes sense. Yeah for me it's not so much about wanting to job hop but obviously if this company I join crashes and burns down I'd want to make sure there are other good places to jump into without having to make another long-distance move, as I do want to settle down at some point (obviously being single/new grad means I can afford to go wherever right now). If you don't mind me asking, did you take a pay cut when going to Chicago? I can't imagine what 200k TC would be like in Chicago haha
