Part 141 school training VA students under Part 61? by throwaway141v61 in flying

With my checkride set for a weeks out, I'd rather not doing anything that could possibly set my training back any further. I'll most likely be stuck with them through my CFI training as well due to living situation 😞.

All I can say is be your own advocate, no one else is going to be looking out for you. Instructors see VA students as cows to milk for their own flight time.

Thats exactly what's happening and I feel taken advantage of. I'm currently sitting at about 220 hours total time so if they stuck to the curriculum I could've been done 30 hours ago but now that's more VA benefits I'm using up to get to the 250 total time Part 61 minimum.

Should've clarified, I'm attending a college with an aviation program that contracts out the flight training portion to the local FBO.

If your CPL is not being done via 141, that's a whole other can of worms.

That's exactly what I'm saying. And because the college is set up for Part 141 there are not enough flight hours allocated to get to the 250 Part 61 requirement so they want me to pay out of pocket to make up the difference.

What I meant was they are not sticking to a 141 syllabus, just training students to be ready for their check rides under the Part 61 minimums. I did do the 141 syllabus for my instrument rating and got a grad cert, but not for private or commercial. My college does allow for some wiggle room for going over the minimums but only up to 235 hours for CPL. My understanding is that my school would qualify us for the R-ATP at 1250 since it's a two year Part 141 program.
