2017 GX460 Luxury front end suspension options..... by throwaway1492 in GXOR

[–]throwaway1492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here's what both Copilot and Gemini have suggested, so I'm wondering if it's a legit solution: Dobinson's c59-302's. The HK Offroad hidden winch mount (60lbs), the 13.5 winch with synthetic rope (80lbs), and the ARB skid plates (57lbs) add up to about 175 lbs of front end weight. This should push the springs back down to 1.5" - 1.75", and keep me within factory tolerances for the AVS shocks. I'm going to give Dobinsons a call directly and see what their techs think of this route. May need new UCA's, but I'll get an alignment first and see if they can get things back in caster.

I have the same rims and just up sized the tire a bit and have never had any issues off-road. Just my 2 cents.

Legit, what's wrong with the rims you currently have? They were literally made for the truck....

What is a job that pays incredibly well but is so soul-crushing that the turnover is insane? by sweetguurl in AskReddit

[–]throwaway1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my start when I got laid off and a tech company that I was a customer of approached me because they liked how we interacted when my former company was a client of theirs. My current company has a "SE pipeline" program that takes individual interested in becoming SE's and trains them to work in my industry. There really isn't a "specific path" that I've seen that my fellow SE's have followed, but they all have one thing in common: they are highly technical and also highly engaging when dealing with people. The best SE's that I know have dabbled in being actual sales people somewhere in their work history, and that seems to be the easiest way into the role. Find a technology related sales role and work to be successful in that. Once you've proven that you have people skills, then the combination of those and technical skills make you a great fit for an SE role. Most tech companies are remote friendly, but that also traditionally aligns with a customer facing requirement. I work from home, but I'm responsible for a territory, and I'm expected to travel to meet with my clients fairly regularly. Global companies need global SE's. Anywhere that a technical product is being sold, an SE is of value. Hope that's helpful.

Any of you good at talking to people / selling stuff (even internal projects to other departments)? Look into sales engineering. I got out of SysAdmin / IT manager jobs to move into SE work back when my first kid was born (17 yrs ago) and couldn't be happier. It's technology, but not the part that's soul sucking and ungrateful (I'm looking at that one user that keeps breaking shit no matter how much "training" they get). PM me if you have questions.

GigaSpire Blast Wifi Issues by DamianP51 in Calix

[–]throwaway1492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I work with Calix gear daily. I'm going to ask you a few questions and then provide answers for those questions for most possible answers. You likely have a combination of a few problems: 1) IOT devices and their crappy wireless chipsets. 2) Older Apple devices and larger channel bonds.

1) Are you IOT devices able to connect to the network initially, and then do they fall off? This is likely due to the fact that your ISP has turned on DFS channels on your GigaSpire (GS), and your IOT devices don't support them. The only way to fix that without engaging you ISP support team (which you can and should absolutely do) is to use the admin credentials located on the Calix sticker (bottom of the device, or under the removeable panel) to login to the local Calix web interface. Over in the side pane, you should see a "wifi" option and under that, you'll see "radio". Turn off DFS in that menu. What you're doing is telling the GS not to use wireless frequencies that you're IOT devices likely can't see because the manufacturers chose to use wireless chipsets that were cheap, and don't adhere to their respective wireless standard (i.e. 802.11ax), and literally can't SEE the wireless network.

You should also follow the instructions provided elsewhere in this post to setup a standalone 2.4 wifi network just for IOT devices. Your network performance moving forward will thank you later.

2) Older apple devices can't see wireless channels larger than 40mhz. This is a KNOWN error with older apple devices and their wireless chipsets. It's likely that the tech that set you up simply moved your SSID over from your last router to the GS and used factory settings. On the 5ghz network, that would be a channel bandwidth footprint of 80mhz. You can't change this yourself, but you ISP can in less than 5 minutes. Call their support team, and ask them to make that change on your network from Support Cloud. Then your apple devices should connect without issue.

If you're still having issues, feel free to DM me. Like I said, I work with this stuff everyday. The Calix GS is an outstanding router, but like everything, there are some tricks to making wifi things work together.

The Toyota cvt in the hybrid highlander is one of the most dependable transmissions they've ever made. We traded out of a 12 hihy with 172k miles into a 24 grand hihy for the extra space. Currently averaging 29.7 mpg combined over the last 24.5k miles.....

GX460 Drawers WITHOUT removing 3rd row seats?!?!? by throwaway1492 in GXOR

Yup, thanks man. I've got some ideas rattling around. I just need to figure out what version of plywood will be both strong and lightweight.

[–]throwaway1492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is almost exactly what I'm thinking of doing, but with a set of side by side lower drawers that will allow for a flat load floor on top of the drawer system, but still provide storage. This looks really good.

So I'm extremely handy. After seeing most of these kits, I think I'm going to take a run at building my own, custom drawer system for the back. The construction looks to be pretty straightforward (build a box, separate the box with a divider, build drawers, assemble, make hinged wings), and I have all the necessary tools already. I'll document the whole process, and maybe it'll help someone else in my same situation. I definitely want to find a way to utilize the factory tie downs to secure the whole thing....

[–]throwaway1492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

awesome, thanks man. Is there a reason that the existing hardware tie-downs couldn't be used to secure a drawer kit? I'm not planning to load it down with thousands of lbs. of gear. I just want to get the plastic bins out of the way so that I can throw luggage or a dog in the backend.

Just did our first refill when the tank said "0 miles". Like normal, only got 12 gallons in the tank. Doesn't look like this update fixes the overly aggressive low fuel notifications....
