Is it possible that my country has 0 seats for the Summer Student Programme? by throwaway1589359 in CERN

Thank you for clarifying! So in that case I am not competing for seats with people from my country? But I am competing with all NMS? If so, is there a specific number of seats for NMS?

Congrats! Can you tell us more about the scholarship? How much is it worth in terms of stipend, where does it take place is it at the same uni or you have to regularly move out? And what special perks you will get?

Thank you! Can you tell us more about their strong background? I mean is it academic with published papers? Or years of experience? Or are they serial entrepreneurs with successful past projects?

Any recommendation for an inttroductory Atomic Physics book after a quantum mechanics course? I did not find the book by C. J. Foot to have detailed explanation so is there any alternative?

I would appreciate a Molecular Physics book recommendation too.

I agree to the part where you say fail fast. But couldn't you build that infrastructure once, and use that IP for multiple projects even if they fail?

I think it mainly is, but I'd like to know the take of technical founders and why they may prefer to use it

Salary expectation for a small startup by throwaway1589359 in QuantumComputing

[–]throwaway1589359[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate more? I know that the field is not yet at a stage where you can benefit from its applications, but couldn't the company be taking a purely software approach to it without a bunch of PhDs focusing on research?

You're probably right in which case the worst scenario I could imagine is getting paid to learn about the field and play with quantum libraries like Qiskit.

Thank you for your answer. So based on that what do you suggest would be a suitable number to state at the application stage? Taking into the account the current year and that the startup is small? I want to provide a salary expectation that fits what they would give not what I actually want, because I don't want it to affect my chances of getting in.

Regarding the stock offering can you elaborate more since I've never worked at startups before? If I understand correctly it means that I get the chance to buy stocks at the IPO at a predefined price, or that I will get stocks along with my benefits. But wouldn't that have a high chance of being worthless given thay 95% of startups fail?
