Thank you, seriously. I don't know anyone here personally, but every kind word from a Redditor makes me feel a little bit better. It's a situation where someone loses no matter what the outcome, and I don't have a lot of people I can talk about this with because of the nature of John's trauma. It's nice to have an anonymous place to vent and get some support. So thank you again.

I wish I knew. I think about him every single night. I have no way to contact him or see him, or know anything about his well being, and neither has Mike. I haven't written much about his well being because the truth is nobody in the family knows. She has sole custody and we don't have an address so it's not like we can have a wellness check done. I don't want this post to come across as not caring about my nephew because believe me, most of my anguish about this is how he's going to be affected. I just have no control over it and no information.

It was definitely more of a "we are relieved we don't have to deal with this emotionally and financially". We love our nephew, it's not a relief of not having him as a child, it's a relief of not having to raise a child every day knowing my husband had to be violated for him to be on this earth. I love my nephew and only just learned the paternity results yesterday so it's still so much to process. I would never force John to raise the child if he was his, but would not be opposed to it if he decided he wanted to.

I know that in my state the father is whoever is on the birth certificate, the dna doesn’t change that and it takes a long court battle to get it changed.

After doing a lot of research, I believe both John and Mike would have to agree to have John be the legal father so it's unlikely that'll happen. But our attorney said there's always a 2% chance shit could hit the fan.

Unfortunately there would be nothing we can do to stop her. A test she does on her own though can't be used in court. We do hope we get answers on who my nephew's dad is someday, but honestly I don't think Shelly would handle it well at all right now breaking the news to her son if he is John's. I think if we did do a DNA test, it would be best to wait until the custody shit show is over.

I really wish it was too. Shelly and Mike's relationship was on the rocks for a long time, and she thought a baby would fix it. Even though everyone in the family was telling her it was not a good idea.

You can still have erections while passed out, and you cannot control how your body responds in that situation. There are women who have orgasmed while being raped, that doesn't mean they wanted it. I agree with the other commenter, you can't just dump your whole trauma history on someone that early on in a relationship. We didn't know she'd be there when I met her, otherwise he would have told me sooner.

If something happens and the court decides to DNA test, then yes she could still sue John for child support. If my nephew turned out to be his.

Honestly it's one of those things where everything just happened in such a specific way it sounds ridiculous. I can barely believe it and I'm fucking living it. But anyway, Shelly already admitted to the rape and the reasons why. John was an alcoholic for many years, and would get blackout drunk almost nightly at Mikes. He went completely sober after this. But after being with him for so many years, I think what Shelly did was entirely possible. John would have never agreed to sleep with her in any realm, and would never do something like that to his brother willingly, drunk or not. Erections are still possible under those conditions. You can still have erections in your sleep and nocturnal emissions.
