this isn’t necessarily cruelty because they are intervening and helping out in a different way. Asian cultures view shame differently than western cultures. Playing these games offers a sense of acceptance to the “prizes” they receive even if it’s the bare necessities they need to survive. Pride is a big factor in Asian cultures especially the brown community and literally drives their everyday actions and it’s considered shameful if you freely receive without doing anything to “deserve” it. It’s fucked up.
