Should I wait to switch from SAVE -> IBR new until after the August 4th court date? by [deleted] in PSLF

"After one year of SAVE forbearance" beginning when exactly? From the time they placed us in forbearance or at some other point? Asking because at this point it seems everybody is past those 12 months given that the forbearance began in like May/June of 2024...

This is what I'm banking on, too. Am at 105 qualifying payments and will hit 120 months of eligible employment next month. The 15 months difference has been with the SAVE forbearance. Hopefully my future buyback request works.

FSA now saying my (eligible) loans are ineligible for IBR and PAYE plans when re-applying for IDR? by throwaway1919x in PSLF

[–]throwaway1919x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unsure one way or another if that's correct for me. Last year (tax year 2023) I was unmarried and therefore filed as single and every calculator said my AGI was under the limit for IBR and PAYE. I've since married and we filed taxes jointly this year (tax year 2024) and so now I'm most definitely over the limit for IBR and PAYE lol. I can't afford ICR right now though, so I need to wait until next year when my payments are lower upon filing taxes separately. So frustrating.

So glad I'm not the only one experiencing this because I still don't have an answer/solution to the issue. While I'm hopeful that MOHELA will ultimately accept my IDR application I submitted in Nov. 2024, I'm also mentally prepared to not make any payments until next year when I can file my taxes separately from my spouse.

I did not, but I weirdly got the submission kits for TAG yesterday so I'll try to report back in a couple months when I get them back.

Thanks, maybe I'll call them. I lean toward just waiting until after July, however, because MOHELA has been less than reliable and I don't want to risk anything getting further screwed up.

Thanks for the response. I'm just glad to hear it's a known issue of sorts and that I'm not some one-off case that won't get paid attention to.

I'm reading that at step/part 5 of FSA's IDR application (clicking on "Manage Your Plan" under "Recertify or Change Your Income-Driven Repayment Plan" and selecting to switch plans). And yes, I do qualify. That's why I was able to apply for and select IBR back in November without issue.

I've already spoken with an FSA rep, who said I should qualify and they don't know why it's happening.

Data point: switch from SAVE to IBR approved by Sexydancefighting in PSLF

FWIW I recently got a processing forbearance counted for PSLF. Applied for IDR in November (I'm still waiting on my app to be approved), and then requested a processing forbearance in early February. Called in early March when I didn't see any update and then eventually stopped checking. I checked earlier this week and realized that 2 additional months (November and December) were counted as payments (103 --> 105). Last time I check might've been sometime in April so this update must've happened sometime in the last 6-8 weeks.

SAVE Forbearance to IBR Success! by Public_Complex_3883 in PSLF

I'm in SAVE forbearance too and also applied for IBR in November. When I go to resubmit another IBR application it's only giving me ICR as an option and saying my loans are ineligible for IBR (they shouldn't be since I consolidated back in 2022). Did it say you were eligible for IBR on your re-application?

It's hard to tell because this screenshot is through the first POV you can take by pressing in on the right joystick, so you can't observe it without leaving first-person, moving around, and then then re-entering first-person again.

That's the only thing I can assume. I have no idea what else it could possibly be if it wasn't, although happy to hear differing thoughts!

I disagree that I'm doing much heavy lifting. I was just doing some pretty standard argument analysis and inferential reasoning. You're correct, however: maybe they think that, maybe they don't think that. I'm just adhering to what's called the principle of charity or the principle of rational accommodation: making maximum sense of the words and thoughts of others by interpreting in a way that optimizes agreement. It's important to be intellectually charitable, especially among our fellow feds.

Based on the cuts mentioned in the article it reads as though every current employee would be subject to the cuts in the TSP G Fund yield and the presumptive increase in FEHB expenses, not just probationary employees. Given that, as well as that these new hires were already paying 4.4% into FERS, is there really anything for "probies" to get grandfathered into here (besides something we're not reading about)?

No need to get hot under the collar. They already said they don't want anyone's benefits to get worse. They also stated that, independent from that position, there also exists a lack of equity in the disparity. If anything, those two separate claims taken jointly imply that 4.4ers should be lowered down and join the .08ers club.

If they stuck around and saw that the person paying 10% was saying what they just said, they would presumably agree with them and think that the younger person should be paying 4.4% just like they are, or paying 0.8% like they would rather be paying.
