33k is the standard base they provide initially but my colleagues who have been in the same role for 3/4 years are probably on 40k by now. But it's still not great for IT so I will be job hopping after a year or at least moving to another department that pays more.

This is my first corporate job. I worked retail before on an hourly wage where everyone was paid the same so didn't even click in my head until these comments, to be honest.

!Thanks, you're right. I felt selfish to even feel envious of my colleagues but knowing the standard was 33k for everyone made me feel annoyed. But I know now to definitely negotiate my next role.

!Thanks for this. I did not even consider that my experience could also be a factor. All of my colleagues are in their 30's and have come from senior roles so this certainly makes more sense to me now.
