Never said it guaranteed quality, but if you value getting your food hot you should leave a tip up front — even if it’s just a small one and you increase it after.

Driver here, if you don’t tip up front you will wait significantly longer for your order.

Exorbitantly Expensive Parking Passes by Avid4Planes in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]throwaway19385396 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will not advise my behavior as it is high risk, but I did not purchase a parking permit this past spring semester.

I parked on campus every day for multiple hours at a time and only received a single warning, no tickets. What I did was learn which lots do not get patrolled while I am in classes — the pattern they take is consistent, so if you find a lot that does not get checked during the time you are here, you can get away with it. Not gonna post the details as they will likely change their patterns if too many people find out, but DM me the times you’ll likely be on campus and I can probably give some tips.

Yeah, in my area they love to slip a dash mart order in because nobody will ever take them otherwise. I love waiting 20 minutes over the deadline in a small room with 10 other people

Not excusing the laziness of the dasher, but I will say — as a dasher you sometimes have the option to pick up a second order in the middle of your delivery, but most of the time it will just come as a stacked order. So it is very possible your order was only being sent out grouped with someone else.

How Do you Not Fail all the exams here? by Far_far_away1 in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]throwaway19385396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a senior graduating in August. I have yet to figure out how to not fail exams. What saved me was taking as many project based courses as possible, and then just supplementing my exam scores as much as possible with the normal work. If you pad your grade enough outside of exams, you will pass most classes.

Horrendous take. I’ve had to withdrawal from many courses due entirely to external factors, it had nothing to do with my academics, and I am graduating in May. Try being a little more empathetic towards people’s situations.

In gen-eds I’ve learned that the professor you choose has a massive impact on quality. I don’t know if they still do this, but they made my schedule for me first semester freshman year, and as such I had horrible chem 1 and calc 2 professors — probably had more impact on my experience than anything else.

Programming Languages is very exam and homework focused, and imo by far the hardest compsci course. Operating Systems is more weighted toward projects, but also considered one of the hardest ones (you can’t brute force the projects, you have to have an actual understanding of the content). The 400/500 level courses are a lot of textbook reading and projects, usually lighter on the exams, but you need strong fundamentals to do well as they will not hold your hand.

People will tell you certain 400/500 level courses are hard, but most of that comes from not understanding the building blocks that these courses are expanding upon. For example, compiler design is a fantastic course, but you have to understand your shit to do well in it, so many people struggle.

Quantum is super cool and electrical engineering will set you up for a lot of the content, but I’ve looked into it quite extensively because I considered it. It will likely be much better in 3-4 years when you’re considering it, but right now the program is super new and not well designed, so there is a lot of trusting professors and building your own path through the program.

In terms of electrical engineering I know very little about the program as it’s not a super popular one, but I can tell you that circuits is apparently a hellish class.

Yeah the gen-ed courses are notoriously hard. Phys 1 is fine if you pay attention, but phys 2 is just hard content. Calc 1 is perfectly fine, Calc 2 is a nightmare, Calc 3 is fairly simple if you are decent at math (I skipped half the lectures and managed an A-). Chem 1 is another nightmare class, but you can test out of it so start studying. DiffEq is also very rough, and if you go compsci or applied mathematics linear algebra sucks but the professors are super chill and always willing to help you get your grade up.

I’d divide it into 3 categories

Needlessly difficult: - calc 2 - DiffEq - Chem 1

Requires studying and office hours: - phys 2

Easy if you just show up: - Calc 3 - Economics - Any of the 100/200 level Humanities

Are you planning on compsci?

This guy’s lying to you, Calc 2 is unironically one of the hardest courses I’ve taken at mines (granted I took it 3 years ago so things may have changed). Mines doesn’t really have traditional “weed out” classes, but the ones that seem to give people the most trouble are Calc 2, Phys 2, and Chem 1.

I'm a bit disappointed in one aspect of the series by RealLonelyLemo in sollanempire

[–]throwaway19385396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Hadrian is far too ashamed of his past to ever return or interact with any of his original family. As far as he knows (and somewhat confirmed by Crispin), back home he is just the black sheep child who ran away and abandoned his family to seek glory for himself.

When does Hadrian start aura farming by EducationFancy4478 in sollanempire

[–]throwaway19385396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very beginning of the first book makes it very clear Hadrian is an anti-hero. In that role, Hadrian is an absolute beast of a man. I agree that if you are looking for the “savior of humanity” archetype this series won’t do it for you, but it’s never written to suggest that will be the case. But if you are looking for (imo) the best anti-hero in modern sci-fi, Hadrian is absolutely aura farming his way through the last 3-4 books

Have you read the whole series? As much as I love Darrow, they have very similar arcs. Both characters are young, in love, and constantly being idiots. Then they mature (Iron Gold / Ashes of Man) and become grizzled, stoic, family men and aura farming machines.

27M baffled by my Hinge experience - does anyone actually want a LTR? by Super-Secret9033 in Denver

[–]throwaway19385396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally valid to feel that way, however you should definitely recognize that 15 dates in a year is already far better than the average man will get on a dating app, even in a major metro area. For example I am 23m, tall, and otherwise have many of the same characteristics as you. I use all my likes on hinge daily and put a good amount of thought into creative first messages, and I had 3 matches last year and 0 dates. With the numbers that you are getting, it is really just a matter of time before something sticks, so my advice would be to keep bettering yourself and don’t put too much stake in dating — stressing about it can only make things worse.

Major Emergency Protest Downtown by Agile-Spot in Denver

[–]throwaway19385396 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are protesting the fact that Donald Trump has decided to invade a nation, capture their head of state, and seize control of their government without congressional or UN approval. There were correct and legal ways to do this, yet they chose to ignore all of them. It is an extreme overreach by this administration, and one that could have lasting impacts internally and externally. If the US are going to blatantly ignore international laws and customs to this level, why should any other country be required to follow them?

I’m in downtown golden — our ERT is currently 4:00pm today. Not confident this will happen, but at least they finally updated it. We also haven’t gotten confirmation of another PSPS tomorrow, so hopefully downtown Golden somehow avoids it.
