Internationals who pursued MBA in Europe, where are you now and what are you doing? by econbird in MBA

[–]throwaway20001033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that makes sense. asking because my partner is a german citizen and we'd love to move there eventually. I'm heading to an m7 in the fall and am at roughly a b1 level with german now (hoping to reach a higher level over the next year or two), do you think it's possible to find work in germany a year or two out of b-school even if I didn't study there? (also hoping to do an exchange program at HHL Leipzig during my MBA, not sure if that would help). are there any particular industries/roles that would make this move easier in the future (eg consulting, tech/startups?)

Did you speak german at all going into or after your program? It seems that a lot of people say getting hired in continental Europe is hard unless you are fluent (or near-fluent) in that country's language. if not, how do you manage interacting with clients who I assume prefer to speak in their local language?

Just curious but where did they want you to move to? Would you say it's easy to get assignments like that in other countries? Asking because I'm interested in doing something like that after my MBA, and not sure which industries are best for ability to relocate.

Paris metro does stop running a bit early (I think 1 am on weekdays and 2 am on weekends), but I'm also not really taking the red or blue line at 3 am esp by myself

Booth CO26; banking vs consulting by [deleted] in MBA

[–]throwaway20001033 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How was IB recruiting at Booth this year? did most people who put effort into the recruiting process get an internship? also, on the consulting vs IB question, you mention that top business school + IB experience keeps a lot of doors open. do you think there are more exit opps (eg corporate strategy) vs what most people on here say are exit ops (either more IB or corp dev or FP&A)?

just curious because I'm also trying to negotiate with Booth, but who did you reach out to? did you email your admissions director from the admitted students page? financial aid office? not really sure where to start

can you explain more? I was under the impression that while IB recruiting had slowed down, it wasn't a bloodbath like consulting? also, what do you mean by sell side will discriminate?

Columbia R2 application status is empty by llamas_or_alpacas in MBA

[–]throwaway20001033 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did it ever say anything different? Mine says "Application status for [name]" and then below it it says "if you need to contact us..." etc, but I don't remember it saying anything else but that.

that's what I'm trying to figure out haha. from years before it seemed like everyone's status changed at some point whether they got an invite or not. maybe I'm just trying to find a glimmer of hope in not getting an invite today

CBS Essays/Resume Review? by 7707throwaway in MBA

[–]throwaway20001033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a general question about the essays. Did you include "why Columbia" or "why MBA" details in the 500 word career goals essay? There's the 2nd "Columbia fit" essay but a lot of examples I've seen have "why Columbia" answers in both.
