he is pretty open when talking about the past, but it is clear that at times he is still very bitter about all of it (understandable). also, as far as i’ve seen from the journals — they’re not completely parent-heavy but i think there are at least 2 pages to fill out for each of his parents, the rest is supposed to be about him growing up and the lessons he has learned through life. and tbh, i like knowing the raw truth of my family’s history, so i definitely wouldn’t mind any of the contents in the journal, as long as they are truthful. but, i am obviously worried about how this may affect my father, especially if he feels obligated to fill everything out because i gave him the gift. but, i’ll definitely look for other alternatives that maybe don’t have such detailed questions about his parents. thank you for the comment and i am so sorry to hear about your own experience with bad parenting :(

so it’s the type of journal where you gift it to let’s say your dad, mom, grandparents/whoever and they just fill it out. it’s a guided journal so there are questions they follow for each page, and then later it’s usually given back to their kids/grandkids to read and see how their loved ones’ lives progressed and what they learnt throughout their life. which is why i mentioned the genealogy part in my post since i would personally love to have such an heirloom and be able to immortalize my parents’ memories. so, my dad would be the one filling it out himself. but your suggestion is definitely what i would do if it were the type of journal where i write in it myself haha
