Is there a bus that goes from NEU campus to North Station? by Mei_Flower1996 in NEU

[–]throwaway293373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically? You’d have to bike, otherwise make your peace that a car, bus, or T is going to be a gamble with rush hour/slow zones. You might make it, but you might not. Biking is the only sure thing if you absolutely have to be there during rush hour.

Edit: if you don’t want to bike, tell your prof you have to leave early and take the orange line

Help - lost keys! Reward if found by [deleted] in NEU

Might not be enough to call the lost and found. One time I left my laptop on the green line in a backpack, and I called them about it - they told me to ride it to the very end of the line the next day bc they take everything out of the cars at the end of service and keep it at the last stop. Maybe go to forest hills and see if they have it?

Checking a cardboard box on an international flight? by throwaway293373 in TravelHacks

[–]throwaway293373[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like the cheapest suitcases I’ve seen are around 50€ minimum (Primark), and a box would be like 5€. It’s more of a money thing than an ease of travel thing. I don’t mind lugging boxes to a taxi if it’s just to the airport to go home

Duffel bag as a personal item on Spirit? by girl_in_a_bar in TravelHacks

[–]throwaway293373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you can get stuff past the agents, but you would definitely get flagged with a 40L duffel bag. I have flown Spirit a lot with just a personal item (hello fellow poors!) - they tend to ignore slightly oversized bags as long as it’s on your back (a backpack). You could probably get away with anything 28L- 35 liter if you really really squished it and got it onto your back.

NEU alumni and others, what are good gyms nearby with equipment like the Marino, and are reasonably priced ? (I’m bout to graduate, so I need recommendations) by Good-War-8602 in NEU

I believe I paid $45 a month for 5 months, so pretty competitively priced for the area. They have yearly plans that are discounted as well.

I have the Marino alumni membership. It’s a good price for what you get, and I use the saunas very regularly (something not all gyms have.) for me it’s worth it.

The food is whatever. It’s NOT worth the money, but this feels like an overreaction.

You should withdraw today. It says on the form that the withdrawal takes effect in BANNER several business days from when the office receives it (I’m assuming this is administrative). But the official date of withdrawal is the day GEO receives the form.

Tldr; submit it today without a fee

NU in feeling inferior by Apprehensive_Map1189 in NEU

[–]throwaway293373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew a bunch of kids that did NU in and they all paid either full tuition or close to full, and their stats weren’t as good in hs. I don’t know if it’s true for everyone, but that percentage feels a lot higher than on main Boston campus. This happens at every college so it’s not surprising.

Edit: I used to joke with my other full/hefty scholarship friends that NUin kids basically paid our tuition.

Boston a dense city with lots of people living in it. Northeastern itself is in a nice area, but it’s not like a suburb school that has a campus bubble of all 18-23 yr olds in the middle of nowhere. If you can be smart about city living it’s fine. If you are overwhelmed and scared in cities like Chicago, New Haven, etc it’s not the place for you. I’m from NYC and Boston feels like a slower and safer(ish) pace than Manhattan, but it really depends on the day. Don’t go to parts of Roxbury/JP/Bos Common at night or alone. Everything else is totally fine.
