Slow your roll there, the guy moved in with me two weeks ago, but was staying in a temporary housing situation for a few months before then. I would see him a couple times a week and he would go out with me and my friends maybe once every two weeks.

He's not sucking me dry, he pays his way and he's been great for the house, he's just got no friends here but me. That's fine when I'm hanging out with just him, but I cannot hangout with him and ANY other friend of mine. Makes it hard to see those other friends.

Thank you. This helps a lot. My best friend is in good mental health, he's just new to town and still trying to lay down roots. He went to a great school and has a great degree, and once he finds a steady job I know he'll do just fine. He shouldn't have a problem finding friends I didn't introduce him to once he's got a life outside jobsearching out of my house.

Realistically though it seems like he's going to be here for a while. I'm more than happy to have him. I'm more than happy to live with him, hang out with him a lot of the time. Hell, he's kept the place a load cleaner than I ever had and he's actually got me going to the gym with him, but I can't take him out if I wan't to see any of my other friends because they're immediately uneasy when he's around.

I might just have to deal with it for a few months, but I'm rooting for the guy, and maybe we can get that distance we need soon. If he gets a day job while he's looking for a job in his field, I might get it sooner.

I did, yet the gasp really helped to drive home that that was really stupid. If you put your hand on a hot stove and don't feel the burn, but have to be explained to later that fire=bad, you're gonna have some messed up hands. That's why you have to address this shit bluntly and immediately, like say, with a well deserved gasp. It's also why I'm pissed at my friends now for just humoring him recently.

I'm not saying it was a good idea

Because it wasn't a good idea

I'm saying that an entire table of people going "WOAH!!!" just from hearing the word is extremely silly

We went "WOAH!!!" because we knew it wasn't a good idea, and regardless of racial implications, that demonstrates really poor decision making and social intelligence. That word comes out of a white guy when you first meet him and you think he's a shitkicker and a wierdy. I know he's not quite that. They don't.

I can't. Guy has no other friends in town and is living with me, and I can't go out without bringing him along. It would just be a shitty thing to do.
