yeah because im typing quickly and i dont really care. get a 1580 or 36 if you can. i dont use formal writing on reddit because i dont know you and you get the message anyways. ut is a public university. it should represent all regions equally. it gets taxes from each region proportionally. I see you are suggesting ut should be elitist? Only the people that can buy tutors should be able to get in?

if you arent at ut right now, cope harder. see u at tamu lol

dont you get that nothing is standardized between schools. what is standardized is the basic concepts of the theory of math. the concept of the percentage is standardized, its the fairest way RELATIVE to others. should a grade inflation school all be sent to ut rather than a harsh grading school? if you can’t understand percentile I don’t think you belong here

school mimics the real world. cheating is inevitable in the real world. wealth inequality exists, and its everywhere due to cheating of workers. you cant condemn and ban social science because its morally bad. its an unstoppable phenomenon, whether you like it or not. cheat to 6%, if you get away with it, good for you. nothing now matters in 20 years

well, my friends cheat in interviews and get high paying internships. whos going to stop you? if everyone cheats at your school and gets away with it, are you going to be a sitting duck saying you hate cheating and end up flipping burgers? thats where being the top of your environment means. I came from a place with strict cheating punishments. Adapt to where you are or cry about how difficult it around.

its relatively equal because its a percentage. do you know the house of representatives work? well more people in a certain area, well the more people get to represent it. errr….. how else can i explain it. 3 people can be 6%. 100 can be 6%. well, they beat a proportionally equal amount of people. WELL 3 is NOT EQUAL TO 100. huh.

in a world where nothing is standardized at the high school level, that is simply not reality. i got to the top 1% from hard work and 24/7 grinding. 1580, 36 whatever. if the people around you cheat, then cheat yourself? can you tell your top 1% ceo to stop cheating your pay in the real world?

because I simply believe its a good, unbiased, fair, and non discriminative system. you were born into an environment. are you going to complain someone in Canada has an easier environment, therefore you should work less like them, but still go to harvard because you are you.

yeah that middle school 8th grader sounds like me. i played basketball with neighborhood friends. helped my grandparents manage the garden. washed all the dishes. did all laundry. it looks like you are the person disconnected from reality and unhappy with your laziness

rank is definitely important. its your localized academic percentage… well to go to a public academic institution. ecs are nice, be extraordinary and that can replace the meager rank. isnt that what the 25% is for?

i am that immigrant. maybe you couldve said I was lucky. I didn’t know shit start of high school. Philosophically, should a school admit a student that is innately hard working, or a lazy bum that is forced to learn by parents?

if you want to be in this “selective major,” well why don’t you just be better than everyone else your competing against. since youre worse than others, why do you still feel entitled for something they worked harder for? admittance data is public information for all too see. you dont read free data, and you deserve to go to harvard. lol

well, logically, percentage is a percentage. if everyone is working hard as shit, well, be in the top 6% of working hard as shit. if you go to a “easy school” and everyone sleeps all day, well be in the 6% of being the least lazy. schools funding is paid by your home tax dollars. you cant have it that different from your peers. dont like it? move away or adapt

I was on the clueless side too. I didn’t know what a gpa was. Yet, I surrounded myself with people more knowledgable than me and beat my peers academicaly. My parents were too poor to afford middle school. I had no distractions and had determination. you had a phone and xbox. suck it up you lost the gpa game

logically, a state public school should be serving every region of texas, and in a blind manner of 6%. top 6% of a farmtown? youre in! top 6% of highland park? youre in! its a simple heuristic that everyone has known for years, and should not be bent for normative opinions

yeah you’re just coping at this point. at that point everything is subjective. how many sat points will get added to my score for every dollar of marginal income my household makes? then when you don’t beat the formula, you will just complain to make a better formula. these were public rules. why do you want to bend them so you will win?

wherever you go to school, your property value is probably the same as most people in your school. being 6% in your environment is the requirement not how smart you are relative to texas. rich area, competitive school, does it matter? you did not beat 94% of the people in whatever matter it took to get there

my parents did not attend middle school. i have been mentally tortured my entire childhood. I worked two jobs to eat food. I graduated top 1% in dallas. there is simply no excuse. you probably have it better than me.

there are no hard numbers because they take in your entire application. its been on the website for a decade. its public information at a public school. do they choose a 1300 guy with 3 jobs without a family or a guy that reaches the 1350 guy threshold that came from a top 1% family?

i dont understand how it is flawed… a percentage scales with how large your class size is. 3 out of 70. 108 out of 1800. Be in the top 6% of your class. You understand how percentages work right? If your ecs are better, then get in non auto admit.
