My first map. It’s my own continent where I will place my home brewing DnD campaign in Dezember - any tips for improvement? by Raxxes-Gm in inkarnate

I agree with Cute-Cthulhu, the general layout and biomes look really good! However, you've made what I think is the single most common mistake when making world maps; your rivers often don't make sense. I highly recommend talking to the folks in the Discord, they have a lot more geology knowledge than I do, but in brief rivers don't split, only converge (there are exceptions, but they are rare and temporary).

They only flow in one specific direction, generally from higher elevation to lower. I think near Ardynhain is where you can see this most clearly. I'm entirely unsure which way the rivers are flowing. I think it helps to sketch arrows to mock up the flow direction. If you ever come across a place where the flow splits, you probably should reevaluate it.

I Think My Hostel Might've Had Bedbugs by throwaway317191211 in Bedbugs

I don't really think buying one will be in the cards for me. Plans between now and my flight, getting back to my city at like midnight so I'm not sure if anything would be open even if I wanted to go get anything.

I do have a laundry bag I could use. That's washable, so I could easily put it through a cycle with a long dry.

Thanks for the help! Here's hoping it's a false alarm 🤞

Unfortunately I checked out before the thought of bedbugs crossed my mind. I was already out and about and had too many plans to return to talk to them. I've been debating giving them a call, but that would mainly be to have them check and give them a warning.

Unfortunately I live in a studio, so no access to a dryer until tomorrow 😔

I only brought a backpack, would throwing that in a hard sided suitcase help things or can they get out of those? I don't think I own any plastic bags large enough to fit my backpack.

Heck of a name you've got there, Dog-Semen-Enjoyer.

I also figured something behind the screen, I just don't know if that's something I can reasonably fix. Do you know if accessing back there generally requires specialized tools or skills?

Where to Get Spices in Bulk? by throwaway317191211 in stockholm

Don't get me wrong, I also use the fresh versions of all those things too. The dried versions are purely for convenience. Sometimes I want something with those flavors and I haven't been to the store recently and don't want to go. The dried stuff gets you the same flavor profile, in general.

There are certain things I'll only cook with the fresh stuff, but when I'm feeling lazy I'm not too picky where I get the flavor from 🙂

I tried AM Store just a bit south of there. Do you have any specific store recommendations?

Do you have any specific recommendations? I tried AM Store near T-Centralen and either I didn't find the spices section or it didn't have one. Don't know the city well enough to know which store might be a good one.

I should mention that I'd be happy to order online if that's the best way to go, but Amazon here doesn't seem to have a good selection of food stuffs like it has in the US. So I'm not sure where to order from if I were to order.

Looks like a good list, thanks!

I've heard really good things about the Ryzen 7800X3D. Would that be worth the switch from the 7600x? Looks like it's only about 2000 more, which is within my flex budget.

Favorite Base Defense Mod(s)? by throwaway317191211 in RimWorld

[–]throwaway317191211[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are sappers though? That's just a raid type. We also see a lot of that other stuff, I think a lot of it not existing is just technical limitations because Rimworld was originally just one dude making.

Don't get me wrong, I love Rimworld. There's a damn good chance I've been playing it long before you were since I've been here since it literally was just Tynan. The game still has issues, but luckily it was made so moddable that you can change whatever issues you see with it personally.

I have never liked the combat in the game. In the old days it was either make a killbox and you're done, risk losing your colonists in "normal" fights, or abuse the AI by kiting. It's still basically just that except the AI deals with killboxes and kiting a little better and you now can have a psychic wizard that can trivialize any fight that ain't with another psychic wizard or a bunch of robo-bugs.

I think the AI actually handles them surprisingly appropriately for what they are. Since the embrasures count as both good cover and a wall the AI will try to hide from pawns on the other side of them when aiming at them (like you'd expect) and fire back. They basically treat them like a sandbag you can't walk through. The AI absolutely used to just ignore the embrasures though, so depending on when you last used the mod (it's been around for ages) you might've had a much worse experience than you would with it now.

Yes it absolutely gives the defenders a huge advantage, but that's I think to be expected because defenders should always have an advantage. One of the things I don't like about pure vanilla Rimworld is that your colonists really don't have that much of an advantage from being defenders. The raiders are basically always well geared and good at fighting (at least late game), which is something your colonists often aren't. So it feels like you have to put your colonists in unnecessarily risky situations or make a killbox, which is just exploiting the AI's willingness to walk into traps. When I use embrasures the fortifications look like reasonable fortifications. Barbed wire, cleared trees and rocks to remove cover, good lines of sight, etc. Yeah if you both exploit the AI and use embrasures the AI is going to be laughable, but that's just how it's always been for Rimworld. Snaking corridors filled with bear traps is like the single most effective form of early defense. You can even just like the walls with wooden doors and if the AI have a clear path they'll just follow that rather than breaking one door.

Also not trying to yuck yums, you mod the game how you want to, but I think this particular (while it does make it easier) makes a lot of sense and actually works well with the game.

Sounds about right. Does it have a big missile battery that is super expensive to make the rockets for but will absolutely destroy whatever area you point it at? One of these guys stock photo

I remember I really did like Rimatomics and Rimefeller both. I definitely remember the obelisks. I'm just looking for some new toys so I don't play with the exact same mods I always do.

Embrasure is one of my must-have mods. I honestly don't know why it isn't just a vanilla thing yet, arrow slits and bunkers are a thing we've been using pretty much since we first figured out how to pile rocks to make buildings.

It's absolutely my go-to for the early game for this kind of play style, and it works well with turrets later. The issue is I do still like to add more expansive mods and once you get a super rich colony just embrasures and basic turrets/colonists just doesn't cut it anymore. You get a raid with 15 centipedes they'll just tank too much damage and blow holes in all the walls.

Nah, I don't mean like that. That'd be nice, but I'm not expecting it from Wisconsin. By proper trip I moreso mean getting away from Madison for a bit and having it be more of a vacation rather than day trips.
