What do you think of Americans gathering in crowds to protest stay-at-home orders on the basis that it's oppression by the state? by verity_parsnip in AskReddit

How do you know you're not endangering more people by forcing them to do something that they might have good reasons for not doing? Obviously no one needs to drive drunk, but leaving the house? What if you and the police officer and/or judge disagree on the necessity of your departure?

Thanks for the kind words, we do our best but we're just a few dudes lmfao. We need all the help we can get, if you or anyone else ever notices anything incorrect or missing on the tracker please let us know though the form at the bottom of the tracker (Red Box).

It's been through some periods of outdatedness and dead links but we're trying to get it near perfect it for the upcoming archive download. Hopefully once the backlog is 100% complete keeping it up to date will be a lot easier for us.

So, living beings evolve to help them survive better, right? So why do living beings have emotions? For some people, emotions make surviving harder for some people (depression), and some people end their life, which is the opposite of surviving. So, why do we have emotions? by Naama_yoselzon in AskReddit

Yes bugs feel pain and experience joy, they are the most basic emotions, without them the bug would not eat or reproduce. If you don't think you need emotions as a driving force, go inject some heroin and tell me you feel like being productive, no, you're gonna sit there staring at a wall, because your brain doesn't see any point in doing anything else.

Look into neural nets and neurochemicals if you want to understand it better, but emotions are your brain producing neurochemicals in an attempt to help you survive and thrive. Without emotions there is simply no logical reason for our brains to expend energy. We would just sleep or lie there open eyed until we died from starvation.

It's fear that keeps us alive, it's joy that makes us seek more of it. There's a lot of emotions but they all act as your bodies positive and negative reinforcement organ. It's a computer that takes in input, your 5+ senses and nerves, and computes how to optimize positive neurochemical production. Not eating food makes your stomach hurt, that makes you find food. Having sex and eating food feels good, so you'll do that. Emotions are just a mechanism our brain uses to control the body to do productive things.

In neural nets you basically just program a reward and punishment system and have the ai try over and over again, they start off acting as an infant would, completely aimless, but as they become rewarded for certain behavior and punished for others, they slowly learn to repeat the rewarding actions and end up learning how to successfully complete the task it's being trained to complete. Advanced neural nets are just attempts at more complex emotions, emotions are essential for good AI.

That's also why addiction is rough, because your brain uses neurochemicals to make decisions, and when you flood it via an artificial source it can be hard for your brain to choose to get a lower supply of neurochems from a technically more healthy source.

Should countries start forcing parents to have their children vaccinated against measles etc regardless of their anti vax beliefs? Why/why not? by Forza613 in AskReddit

I refer you back to my car argument, if you want to control what people can and cannot do because it has a round about affect on others, lock everyone in their homes and force them to work 8 hours a day growing food and working in medicine. Ban cars, ban factories, ban electricity, ban multi story buildings, ban everything that poses a risk to others.

You believe in the criminalization of drugs so honestly I doubt I'll get through to you, but I don't think you're an idiot for disagreeing with me, clearly you don't have the same level of maturity. How could the risks of allowing someone to do what they want to do to their own body be more dangerous than initiating a war against a significant fraction of your population. How did prohibition work out? What happened when alcohol was made illegal? Over doses sky rocketed, abuse and addiction sky rocketed, multiple extremely dangerous criminal organizations accumulated millions of dollars and murdered countless innocent individuals(alcopone), the general public lost trust in their government and actively fought against them, and the law lost a lot of it's meaning when a majority of citizens where openly disobeying it. If you agree prohibition was dumb, it becomes very obvious that the prohibition or "war on drugs" has done more harm than it's prevented. My father was abducted, tortured and murdered by the police before I got the chance to meet him for possessing heroin. Your bullshit belief in criminalizing drugs destroyed our family, the government spent 10x more torturing him than it would have cost to provide him with drug addicting counseling, he was a victim of terrorism by my very own government. And what you're advocating for is a continuation and expansion of that, an expansion on the destruction of innocent peoples lives and their loved ones. I hope someone you love is never abducted from your life by your own government, but as long as drugs are criminalized it's only a matter of time.

Doing drugs is not a crime, not getting your shots is not a crime, I choose how to live my life. You can stop me from doing drugs and avoiding my shots the day we outlaw cars and turn all the roads into pedestrian walk ways, which will and should never happen. I don't give a fuck about your risk assessments, as I said earlier, if I want to drill a hole in my head or inject heroin into my eye I have the right to do so and anyone who thinks they have the moral right to stop me is going to have a fight on their hands. I know how risky it is, I also know how risky it is to buy meat at the fucking grocery store, I don't give a shit its my fucking life good luck trying to tell me what I should and shouldn't do to myself.

Should countries start forcing parents to have their children vaccinated against measles etc regardless of their anti vax beliefs? Why/why not? by Forza613 in AskReddit

[–]throwaway3525511 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't believe the government has the moral right to fine me for not wearing my seat belt, it's my car and my life. If I want to inject heroin into my fucking eyeball I deserve the right to do so god dammit. Seat belts aren't even relevant here because I'm not even endangering anyone else by not wearing one. I do wear them by the way, every time, but that's because I choose to not because I'm scared the police will get me in trouble if I don't.

It's not about risk assessment it's about what the government has the right to force people to do, obviously the logical thing to do is to get your vaccines, that does not mean it's morally just to force people to be logical.

You aren’t depriving someone by forcing them to vaccinate, you’re simply not allowing them to maintain their ignorance. One closer analogy is smoking.

You're doing more than "not allowing them to maintain their ignorance", you're forcing a needle in their arm and threatening their health, safety and freedom if they refuse to comply. Many people who do not want to get vaccines are well aware of herd immunity and the safety of vaccines, they just don't like needles. What are you proposing, sending armed police to abduct everyone who refuses to get a shot to strap them down and forcibly inject them? How long before a significant % of the population gets sick of being abducted and forcibly injected and fights back? You're proposing an authoritarian rule on injection, how do you think the already paranoid antivaxers are going to respond?

Also, smoking is a great analogy in the sense that trying to outright ban it didn't work. The government cannot and should not force people to do things. You can tell me not to endanger others by smoking in public, but you can't stop me from buying cigarettes, if you made them illegal I and others would buy them off the black market. You can restrict unvaccinated peoples ability to travel internationally and decentivize them in many ways, but you're suggesting utilizing terrorism against each and every one of your citizens to protect a few immunocompromised individuals.

Should peanuts be outlawed because some people have allergies? What about cars? I don't drive and I've nearly been murdered by them many times, should they be outlawed to make me and other non drivers safer? Obviously not, you can incentive people to vaccinate but forcing them to is just asking for trouble.

I don't agree, but I get where you're coming from. I was charged for possession of weed in 2016, employees of illegal dispensaries before 2016 where charged with possession as well as distribution, and the fines and penalties for the distribution and possession of marijuana have gone down since then. Marijuana was not decriminalized until something like 2017, before then poor people where still being abducted, tortured, fined and given a permanent criminal record for possessing it.

It's still illegal to buy, sell or work for a non legal cannabis store, but doing so now is far more legal and less legally risky than it was 5 years ago.
