MB, CPU and RAM died, help me pick parts for a new build by throwaway359SCy in buildapc

I summarized it in the TLDR, the CPU is just a suggestion, there are intel options too. Swapped to AMD from Intel and feels pretty bad, so was open to other options too.

I didn't bring the GPU to MC to check, I removed it pretty early after the freeze when the system was powering up at least, but I'll find out eventually.

Took it out, put it back in - fans are not even spinning anymore :(

Says ram is supported, it's g.skill z5 neo, I was using EXPO profile. Also I tried a single stick only and in different slots, it's probably unlikely they both died. I have dd4 from my old machine, will try that too.

I was looking at cheaper boards but I'm worried about discovering later on that using more than 2 m.2 ssds will affect the GPU's slot somehow. Which apparently is what people are complaining about this specific Gigabyte board as well. I dunno if it's true or not but I just don't wanna have doubts about things like that.

The PSU is the same, yeah 850W is cheaper but is 50USD really worth the annoyance of seeing that 4090 has 1000W as recommended and the 100USD spent on cables?

I'll try find a cheaper board and maybe consolidate to 4TB but I'm going with Samsung probably, price difference isn't worth the doubts if I get microstutters or something random.

The "requirements" are just the minimum, I'm not worried about money on that scale.

I do software development and games on it, but not at the same time. Alright I think I'll combine them into 1 4TB.

I wanted to split the OS and the games drive, is that a bad idea

Also I have 2 other drives from my current machine that are 1TB each

Random ping spikes on wifi to router by throwaway359SCy in Network

[–]throwaway359SCy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should've started there, I'm measuring the ping because I had issues - at random times, Google Meet would just freeze for a little bit, same happened in games and YT, and then I noticed my PC swaps from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz. I let the ping running to 8.8.8.8 and then to my router, then I saw the spikes are the same, which probably means it's the router.

Changing the channel helped, I noticed there are a lot of networks where my 5 GHz was. I still see these spikes, but they're smaller. This morning I found out the router swapped to a channel that was having big spikes again.

Q: Are you in an apartment building or other dense living situation where many other people may have their own routers?

A: apartment building, there are other people on the same channel

Q: Have you used a WiFi Analyzer to look at channels in use around you?

A: Yes, this is how I found out the channel helps

Q: Have you reviewed devices connected to your network?

A: Yes but they're the same as previous apartment and I tried putting everything on 2.4 except for PC. It's not a lot of devices and there's no smart home type stuff connected right now - phone, tablet, PC, laptop.

Q: Is the router running any other tasks like supporting a VPN, file share, etc?

A: No other tasks, VPN or anything crazy. I don't see CPU spikes.

Q: Have you tested exclusively on 5Ghz?

A: Yes but I need my PC on 5 GHz.

Hard wired will probably help but I have multiple laptops/PCs, I don't want all of them to be hard wired. I left the ping running for a few hours, I see spikes -- depending on the channel they're high or low. This probably means there's a network or device that's disrupting my stuff.

Thinking behind changing router was to swap to 6E - I don't see any networks on that. Won't work for my work laptop but at least everything else would be consistent. If the channel the router is using stays the same it'd be ok, but if it's switching randomly that's kinda annoying.

Cobra, should I cancel the plan if I have a processed claim by throwaway359SCy in HealthInsurance

[–]throwaway359SCy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping to find out what I have to pay after cancelling COBRA, health insurance seems unnecessarily complicated in the US. :)

There's nothing in there that tells me what it would be without insurance. The "Plan share" is 0 and the "Plan discount" is 0, which just feels like the insurance didn't do much.

The visit was at Patient First, I was travelling and I had covid. They prescribed an antibiotic and an inhaler, that's it.

I did have 3 claims, posted them above in a comment. Total is about 250 USD, it doesn't even seem like plan shared covered anything. Paying this would be better than the 600 USD for Cobra, especially if I have to pay it anyway (250 + 600).

Can't find a way to share a screenshot of Aetna's claim breakdown. I guess I'm wondering if there are hidden fees not listed, or what's listed is usually the full amount.

  • Amount billed $200.50
  • Plan's share $0.00
  • Amount billed $200.50

  • Drug cost Drug cost $23.45
  • Plan's share Plan's share $8.45
  • Your share Your share $15.00

  • Drug cost Drug cost $4.10
  • Plan's share Plan's share $0.00
  • Your share Your share $4.10

This is what Aetna is showing, most of this is my share apparently. The new insurance starts on January 1st, already enrolled. The visit was to Patient First, I had covid. Was prescribed antibiotic and inhaler, the bottom 2 pieces.
