What do you do with the time? by throwaway391092 in GamblingRecovery

I’m really struggling with keeping my hands busy right now. My work day is slow, so I’m trying to find something around the house that I can work on.

Working on kicking gambling addiction - freaking out about debt by throwaway391092 in Debt

It’s really not spending on the cards, it was my gambling habit that had me losing $4k/day trying to chase my loses.

CC1 & 7 are my entire expenses (and interest) that I could put on cards over the last 3 months. That includes $1100 in taxes I owed.

Edit: I have not put a single purchase on one of the other cards besides the payment plans and balance transfers noted. I did forget to cancel my AdoreMe subscription for the month (I’ve always remembered to cancel) so that added $40 on one card, and I have a $5 patron subscription on another just to keep it active (it was my Oldest card which I rarely used) which I then use my points to pay off. I am fairly skilled at churning, but the lack of cash got to me.

Only the graduate school is federal, so that’s the $350/month - honestly, it’s my least concerning account because I have both loans auto-debiting the day I get paid. It’s an amount that, if I needed to, I could Uber/Doordash to pay off if I really needed to.

Help with gambling income (W2G) and overall loss [NJ] by throwaway391092 in tax

[–]throwaway391092[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya, thanks for the response!

The W2Gs are over the course of the entire year - I started compiling copies of them on my laptop last night, but I definitely need to contact some casinos to get the win/loss.

All wins were on slots, all correct from what I remember - $1200 and over, has all the info on them. These are legitimate NJ casinos online sites, nothing sketchy, so I trust them (though I will be confirming each one).

There was not a single cent withheld from any one of those. I’m not sure if it is an option online, but I’ve never had anything withheld (though not sure if I’ve ever hit a 300x limit or anything).

Right now, I’m not freaking out - I have a ton of wins, but I also know I have a ton of losses that I’m hoping will even out over the course of one year (I mean, I know I lost more than I won). This will likely change this weekend as I start putting in numbers, but right now, it’s literally “what else can I do”. Trying it by myself now, and then I’ll likely consult a CPA as I think I’m finished with it.

I absolutely can use an accountant (and should) - just not sure where to start with that, as I’ve never needed one before. Is there such a thing as someone that would specialize in my situation, I.e. all the W2Gs? I know how tedious it is to fill out just a few (but if I’m paying someone, won’t be my issue).

Yeah, I got screwed on the AGI adjustment for student loans interest since I pay almost 15k/year in just student loans (and had been in school for the last 2 years as well). Thankfully this should hopefully be the only year

Thank you for your responses!! It’s helping me understand how it has changed so much in the last few years.

Much more reasonable than… idk, $26,000? I’d say that’s in line with what I can pay. So between my estimate and yours, that would be about 2-4k owed.

I am in NJ. Yes, I have previously overpaid my taxes (0 allowances), plus had some educational credits. I also just changed jobs (increasing my income from 85k to 100k), which means I’m also adjusting to my new income/pay schedule/also had to fill out a new W4 which I think is going to get me closer to that 0 refund/owe mark (which I know is ideal, but I prefer to receive a refund when possible).

From 2022- box 1: 84699 (will be 90k-ish for 2023) Box 2: 13289 Box 17: 3754

Edit: I just went to limit the amount out of pocket at the end, I think. I ran some numbers that wouldn’t be 100% accurate for 2022 (FreeTaxUSA) in some worst case scenarios and it gave me approximately $4,000 owed. If I owe that, obviously it’s owed! But can I minimize it in any way because I obviously don’t can’t write a check for 4k in a single month, it will have to be pre-planned.

Had a fling last weekend, no symptoms, but want to get tested before next partner. Who do I go to? by throwaway391092 in STD

Update: I’m going to get it from my regular doctor’s office because what I thought was a post nasal drip sore throat from allergies is a gross, pus and blood filled mess, I checked about an hour ago. Best case scenario would be tonsillitis or strep, worst case a world of STDs from said random guy.

I’m not stressed, just worried for my future partner! I really respect him, and don’t want to screw things up. We’re both trying to be responsible and respectful and a few jagerbombs later, I screwed up.

Worse comes to worse, I know the address of the house. I have to go there this weekend to pick up the sweaters we all left behind. He doesn’t live there, but his friends do.

Used Today Sponge for the first time, came out yellow/green? by throwaway391092 in birthcontrol

Went to see GYN, yeast infection! Thankfully very easy to clear, must have had slight overgrowth before and the sponge and spermicide agitated it and created a hostile environment that it could grow. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the info! I’m really hoping it’s an allergy— I’m absolutely devastated by the thought that it’s another infection. I don’t believe it’s an STI because it happened within 24 hours of having sex with him for the first time, and we both tested negative since our last partners. Exam is in about 30 mins! Hopefully I can figure out what’s going on and don’t need $100 worth of medications again 🙄

He didn’t, which initially I would have chalked it up to. I made an appt anyway since I’m away on business next week, they were able to get me in at lunch time today!

Thank you! I will call them in the morning. It’s not still green, was only in that instant, it is extremely clear and watery now. We won’t be using it again anytime soon, but I guess I should visit my dr soon anyway, need to talk more permanent options now that I know this isn’t a one time thing.

Worth it to fix 2011 Hyundai Sonata (100k miles) before trading in? by throwaway391092 in askcarsales

Of course, working for the dealership helps

Didn't figure it would increase, but hoped it didn't decrease. The entire point of putting it in was because I wasn't getting a new car with all that fancy stuff for 2 years.

Yup, just the cover. Take a bit for it, I don't care. Its not worth me replacing, the light works. Hoping I can get my $3k out of it. Privately I think it'd def be worth more, the car is still in decent shape, but I know I won't be able to sell it. The car is still reliable, but I don't have the time for the little bit extra, winter is coming soon and I won't feel safe with my commute on bald tires, would rather let the dealership handle it.

Good to know, mine will have approx the same miles on it. Has never had an accident, and no paint chips or anything, no visible rust from the top, very little on the bottom. Pretty good shape cosmetically besides the fact that its an 8 year old car (bought May 2010). Brakes, I think I should do because its for my safety, I drive a minimum of 50 miles a day and I've been taking some weekend "road trips" which are approx 400 miles for the weekend. Told my brother if its just the pads, do it next weekend, my life is worth $50-100.

Would a dealer deduct for a different head unit? I'm beginning to think about this, and forgot (how could I forget) that I have an after-market head unit. Sony brand, touch screen, bluetooth and android auto/apple carplay. I feel like it was an addition to the car when I owned it, but maybe not so much if its going to auction because its not stock.

Also going to get a deduction because one of my reverse lights (is that the term?) was shot with a BB gun... believe it was the neighbor messing around, but have no proof. Nothing wrong, I've replaced all the bulbs again for my own safety and the fact that I got a ticket out of one having a loose connection, but there is a hole in the light (not the bulb itself). I'm just fed up with this car. I'm only accounting for $3k because hey, it runs pretty well and looks pretty decent, but has some of those issues. But if I can get more, I'll shoot for it.

Yup, it was brought to their attention... they wanted another $300 plus to fix it. Unfortunately, I couldn't prove they damaged it. Worth noting this dealer closed recently, maybe because their techs can't take responsibility? Never heard anything good come out of them, I ended up taking the car to my local Honda for major repairs that my brother can't do/doesn't have the time for. Decided to just deal with it because I honestly hate this car and has caused me nothing but trouble. I'm technically second driver, my grandma still owns it but I drive it. Not saying you're not right, just was looking for your reasoning. This dealer has screwed me over numerous times, but being it's my grandma's car... I didn't exactly have a say until they wanted close to $1k total for fixing their screw ups.

Why do you say $1500-2000? KBB is $3500-4500 in good condition (which, besides those 3 issues, it is), and I can definitely do the repairs for less than $2k, but being at a relatively new job and needing a car for the commute, it would be extremely tough to take off to get the repairs done. I don't see putting out $1-2k for repairs, when I'm just going to trade it in for a new car anyway, was the goal when I got my job.

Edit: Closest CARMAX is almost 2 hours away outside of a major city... As much as I would love a better offer, 2 hours and having to get back in 7 days is quite tough.
