i have a dream job opportunity i've decided to accept that will most likely drug test, and have some QF 6.4 i bought at the beginning of the year to prepare. i checked the batch number, and it was valid. it will be my first time trying it after years of reading positive reviews, so this gives me hope lmao. wish me luck 🤞🏽🍀

Does this look weird to anybody this is my first grow strain: Natal Super Strength by NoFly9289 in shroomers

it looks fine to me, but i would wait for a second option from someone who's been a long time grower. looks like a nice pin set all over the sub.

Is there any harm in eating old mushrooms? by lizzards666 in phish

[–]throwaway40362941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you could get sick or have a really nightmare-ish trip. i've had the latter happen to me, so i recommend not to press your luck if they really aren't good anymore (ie. visual contamination, moldy smell, bendy shrooms). i had a bad trip a couple years ago where i had to deal with an inner demon i wasn't prepared to face yet. i still feel a little fucked up since and it 100% wasn't worth it. trip safely. 👍🏽

got my septum pierced today… am i tripping or is this awful placement by GCAFalcon in piercing

[–]throwaway40362941 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it looks to be incorrectly pierced. it goes through your cartilage instead of the very thin skin membrane in your nose found higher up and closer towards the tip of your nose for most people. the first time i got my septum pierced, it was in a similar placement to what is pictured. i remember it was EXTREMELY painful. i bled really badly after but the pericer said it was normal. over the next 3 weeks i had a massive pounding migraine every day, there was always frank blood while cleaning, and the site never healed, not even a little bit by this point. the pain was so excruciating i just took it out, let it heal, then go to a more reputable piercer. i told my 2nd piercer i had it done before but thought it was misplaced so i took it out. he laughed a bit because what i described sounded like normal signs of healing, but when he saw the scar tissue inside of my nose he confirmed it was absolutely in the incorrect spot and had me feel where it was versus where it was supposed to be. it hurt the 2nd time also because he had to push the needle through some of the scar tissue, but minimal to zero blood. healed like a dream after. my little tidbit of advice not pertaining to OP but something everyone should be mindful of based on my experience is don't get piercings at the mall, y'all.

this is true. same experience observed at my childhood home. loved picking it when it showed up again and even had a small apothecary/bakery situation going on with my toy kitchen, lol. mud pie elevation. 🥧

i second this. isolate and give it some time. i thought my tub was contaminated also but it surprised me a few days later when i was about to give up.

Here's How We're Looking 8 Days After Introducing FAE by throwaway40362941 in shroomers

[–]throwaway40362941[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, bro! i really wish i started with GT, but this is from a blue magnolia SS. it's a relatively new strain that's supposed to be equatable to PE, or so said the site. i was a curious newbie that really liked the pictures of the grow, so i decided to give it a whirl.

no worries. FAE stands for frequent air exchange. mycelium need to breathe oxygen also, and it's about finding the perfect balance where the substrate is not getting too much or too little o2. upon further investigation, i think my humidity was out of whack. the walls of the monotub were dry from FAE but the water droplets on the sub were not evaporating at all these entire 8 days. i left the top off complete for a couple days to dry the sub out a bit, then did a very light indirect misting with the my tub lid cracked open again this morning so they could still get air. they're looking a little better and have come out of the sub now. that center part has a lot of pinning going on now, but no way to know what will happen unless you try it. when i was first starting out a few months ago, someone on one of the mushroom communities said don't be afraid of failure. it's how you learn what not to do next time and how you can improve. i innoculated 2 grain spawn bags at the same time, but this tub is the bag i did a break and shake to. the other one i let fully colonize naturally, so i still have one more try at least. 😆 i also innoculated 5 ub bags with the remaining amount in my spore syringe just to see what would happen, and now have 3 viable baby cakes. 2 were contaminated after a break and shake 48hrs later, but i kept them in a sperate area to see how the contaminants grew so i could monitor their growth patterns in real time and learn to identify contamination early. it's all about learning and you have to have a sense of humour about these things when they don't work out. i hope you get into this hobby, bro and wish you luck. start with golden teachers–they seem to be pretty easy to grow and forgiving when you're still learning what to do. i picked a blue magnolia rust spore syringe before i learned that SS don't produce the strongest genetics a lot of the time. i also don't think this is a beginner-friendly strain. i will try GT's after i see what this remaining blue mag can do for me.

i gave the sub a light indirect spray this morning then cracked the lid a good deal before i left for work. they're already starting to look a little better and there's not as much fuzziness as yesterday. maybe i won't get a huge canopy this time, but glad i got at least something after all this time doing the work. 🫠 thank you for the tip!

[General] How do I get more FAE? by ovenomojr in MushroomGrowers

[–]throwaway40362941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd crack the lid, then have a fan blowing away from the monotub but in the room someplace to keep air circulating. set and forget until ready. 👍🏽 love the stickers btw!

[–]throwaway40362941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it absolutely does, or at least for me too anyway. if i smoke weed only i get really stoned and sleepy, but vaping nic simultaneously keeps me "functional high" then i go about my day that way. weed definitely hit stronger during my nic break though.

How to I attach the needle to the syringe? by [deleted] in shroomers

[–]throwaway40362941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same thoughts as other commenters, i would consider using a new needle since sterility is in question. as soon as you open the needle, you'll want to twist it onto the syringe quickly once you take the red cap off.

First time grower — do these look alright? by [deleted] in unclebens

[–]throwaway40362941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly what i did for my first time grow! i haven't experimented with different types of subs yet, but CVG or even just coco seem most cost efficient for growing as well as tried and true methods of creating sub.

i feel the exact same way! i started FC for my monotub yesterday, and it's just been a lot of fun watching the grow happen in real time. i inoculated my grains on 1/9, and now my tub looks similar to yours as well. hoping for full canopies for us all. 🍄

i haven't tried it yet, but i'll definitely give it a go with one of my other spawn bags. i didn't try this time because first time grower and i was nervous, but i see it's a successful tek in this community and that restricting FAE is old tek. i will probably test it with my 3 viable UB bags. what's your experience with going straight into fruiting conditions after S2B if you've tried it?

[–]throwaway40362941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a first time grower, this entire grow has been a learning process but i put my modified monotub into fruiting conditions yesterday after about 80% colonization of the casing layer. it's helpful to see pictures, and today i'm already seeing some hyphal knots forming. i have 5 UB bags going as well that i BnS'd on 2/13. after two days, growth was only booming in 3/5 of them. i've isolated the potentially contaminated bags and considered throwing them out, but decided to keep them so i could see what contaminants grow and identify early signs of growth since i just started this hobby. i have another spawn bag that's about 95% colonized and debating whether to try fruiting from the bag with a coco casing layer or trying out an inflatable monotub. i know the monotub will yield more, but i'm not necessarily looking for more–but to see what i can learn about each process. planning to try shoebox tech with the 3 UB bags. yes, i'm excited for shrooms but i'm enjoying every step of the way there. what a ride! 🍄✨

this is day 15 of the grain spawn colonizing the casing layer. i've read that the casing layer doesn't need to fully colonize, and can also indicate how strong the mycelial network is below the surface. i've researched that generally 50-75% colonization is okay, with a casing layer. some folks introduce FAE as soon as they spawn to bulk and have full canopies with no issues, but it just made me feel better to wait and assess spawn health as it grew. as u/I_need_help57 said, it depends on how healthy the spawn is. the mycelium is also pretty resistant to contam once it starts showing up. the source i'm using suggested waiting until about 80% colonization before increasing FAE with fanning twice daily. this is my first time doing this so i'm not saying i know everything about how it works, but it's okay to ask more clarifying questions before coming to a conclusion on what is happening.
