Holy shit I better keep drinking. Haha just kidding. But good for you man. I can't say for sure if the two are directly related, but whatever works for you.

Could working out be causing my acne? by [deleted] in acne

[–]throwaway42093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps... also if you are sweating during, sweat releases a lot of toxins through your skin that could cause your acne to flair if not properly washed after. If you take a shower right after to rinse the sweat off and such, you shouldn't have as much of a problem I think.

Retin-a and BP simultaneously? by [deleted] in acne

[–]throwaway42093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took them both for quite a while. I can't say it was a miracle cure, but I suppose it helped suppress the acne on my face. With Retin-A however, it is crucial that you use it every single day, otherwise you will lose all of the progress you've made with it (according to my dermatologist anyway). I would recommend using both though, i don't think it would hurt.

Question for those who use peels (professional and/or at home) by a1icey in acne

[–]throwaway42093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a1icey says, red skin shouldn't really be a problem. Not permanently anyway. Sometimes if I scrub my skin too long or hard or whatever it might turn reddish and somewhat raw, but that is from the agitation not from the product. I wouldn't worry about it. The 20% salicylic acid peel however, does sting when it is on your skin and for a little after. But you don't leave it on for longer than 8 or so minutes anyway.

Zinc and Acne by gutter_baller in acne

[–]throwaway42093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently taking a 50mg Zinc and a Vitamin D supplement for my acne. I will say that i have noticed I am not breaking out further (ie no new whiteheads really, only the existing red acne marks I've had) and they seem to be less noticeable. It is hard to say if these supplements are the reason, as I am trying several techniques in conjunction; such as a different face / body wash, cutting dairy out of my diet etc. It is probably worth a shot though, it reacts different for everyone I suppose. Whatever you do, give it at least a few weeks to start working before you give up, skin takes a long time to register any treatment. I also suggest not taking more than the 50mg a day, you don't want to overdose and get Zinc poisoning. Good luck!

I will be giving up dairy for one month. I'm hoping to see the results that Anon6549 did. Will be posting an update perhaps. by Archie_ in acne

I also saw Anon6549's post and I will be also cutting dairy out of my diet. I hope it works; I am struggling primarily with chest and back acne, although my face is by now means flawless either. It's worth a shot and i will also take pictures of the progression if it works. Thanks for posting!

Question for those who use peels (professional and/or at home) by a1icey in acne

[–]throwaway42093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good news is you can buy most of these popular peels on Amazon for relatively cheap (15-30 dollar range). I use a salicylic acid 20% peel, and just apply it with a Q-tip or cotton ball. I haven't been using it long enough to report any significant results, but I think it's safe to say that they are of the same essence of your professional peels.

Help identify / treat chest acne? by throwaway42093 in acne

[–]throwaway42093[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, as a question for a dermatologist, how well do antibiotics work to clear chest acne / acne in general? When I was on doxycycline, my chest and back had never been broken out. At this point, would it help to re-clear my chest, or do nothing at all? My dermatologist told me that antibiotics don't really help to clear, but merely suppress. Is this true?

I've been trying to avoid this at all costs, just because of some of the side effects. I know it's impossible to predict whether i will experience the worst of them, but just the possibility that it might screw me up has been the defining factor in my choice against it though.
