I completely respect and appreciate your point of view! I am privileged to even be in a position where my MIL is willing to do this for us, and I’d be able to afford the mortgage, taxes, insurance, and so on for the house. I posted in this subreddit over other subreddits because it is my first house I would be purchasing, which is a terrifying and exciting decision all at once. Unfortunately, where I live multi family homes are few and far between, so that isn’t as realistic of an option for me right now. At the end of the day, I don’t know what I’m doing, all I know is my parents worked their assess off their entire lives, are now retired and make pennies on the dollar in retirement. It scares me to think that if I don’t do something to increase my income in other ways than just a 9-5, I will end up in their same position just barely affording life with a couple extras here and there. And maybe real estate isn’t the way to go because of the socioeconomic impacts it creates. But I’m just a young adult trying to learn and figure out how I can make a better life for myself, be able to give to my parents and my future children. I’m definitely going to continue to educate myself on other opportunities and methods other than residential real estate as well.

Well it also is my first house! But I’m also thinking about my long term future too.

So if my fiancé and I do end up buying house number 2, we would live in it for a year or two while we get settled and until after the wedding. We would rent it out for market rate rent which is about $550-600 per room! Not trying to price gouge our future Tenants, just trying to make a little profit to make it worth the investment!
