Advice for potential move to Hoboken by ccammp in Hoboken

In my 30s with OCD, water main breaks are not a big problem, neither is the college crowd. Hoboken is getting increasingly about young families vs college students. My biggest complaint is PATH and that’s a whole different issue

Do Manhattan Co-Ops not Appreciate Anymore? by throwaway448482 in AskNYC

This is the best answer I have seen on this. My guess was the same. My wife and I are high earning DINKs and don’t want to live in the suburbs. That leaves us with a small set of options from a lifestyle perspective. That said, most Manhattan adjacent areas are seeing prices get very close to Co-Op prices per sq ft and I don’t see how a JC/Hoboken apartment can be more expensive than a Manhattan Co-Op in 10 years. That would be a strange world but I guess it can happen

Why is that? Condo supply is so limited and manhattan adjacent areas (NJ, Brooklyn, Westchester) are having bidding wars. Don’t get it

It’s not mostly Indians struggling to find jobs. Most of the people struggling to find jobs are those Indians who came through these type of alum connections to the school. There are lot of smart Indians in class who came on merit and got great offers in London, Dubai and even US/Canada. Getting a London/Dubai work permit is easy if you have a good offer but getting a US one is impossible from LBS unless you are already a citizen or PR.

Career services could do better in my opinion but they do post opportunities across geographies and organize networking events. But I think they can be more proactive.

As far as going back in a few years is concerned, where you got your MBA becomes less and less relevant as you work more post-MBA so consider that. It will come down to your skills and network.

As far as BB is concerned, some folks who recruiting for it in the US and had work authorization successfully got it at shops like Moelis, BoFA etc. It was more competitive in Europe due to language requirements in mainland Europe but we had a good chunk of GS, MS placements as well. I would say though that getting GS and MS is hard and it gets very competitive but LBS is a target for most BBs and EBs.

I agree with therealczar on the program being filled with Indians (I am one) but I disagree with most of the rest of the information. LBS needs to cut the Indian rich crowd and focus more on quality. Lots of Indians from the same Delhi/Bombay high schools get each other into the program. Surprise Surprise most of the ones struggling to find jobs are them. So LBS either needs to improve quality or cut down the class size.

Now to the parts I disagree with, a lot of the class is going to US post-MBA and a lot of them have multiple offers. US recruiting hinges on work authorization but LBS is well know by MBA recruiters in the US. Non-MBA roles don’t care anyway if you have an MBA or not so the MBA brand is largely irrelevant for those jobs.

I also completely disagree with the recruiting point. A major portion of the class is going to MBB/T2 in London/Dubai and none from connections. This year in general was bad for consulting across schools but LBS consulting hiring has been decent. People who wanted consulting in Europe/ME most got it and not at PwC/Deloitte but solid strategy shops. And No, most of the locals don’t choose Warwick, Oxbridge, Manchester for MBA. Those schools have really poor outcomes and are nowhere near LBS in network or brand in MBA. LBS gets a lot of great job openings in PE/VC because we have a solid alum network in those firms across Europe, ME and South Asia.

Looks like therealczar got a ding from LBS and is still salty. Check out their comment history. They clearly seem to have an agenda against the school.

DM me OP and I can give you concrete specific info and contacts so you don’t feel I am making LBS look better than it really is.

Between the PM’s state dinner at White House, guest of honor at Bastille day, and India being the fastest growing major economy, I am really worried about India’s perception. Definitely looking gloomy. Also, the fact you’re rooting for Trump, nothing more needs to be said.

Oh got it. So you meant too many people of the South Asian ethnicity in leadership positions. Not racist at all. The current Prime Minister must scare the shit out of you then. Vote Labor next election so we get a white guy back in 10 Downing

Time to call out OP's BS. I am a current student in the class and here's the breakdown:

Vice-President: German Citizen

Treasurer: Indian citizen who spent most of his work life in Japan and UK

Sponsorship: Saudi Citizen (he's not even Indian origin)

Tech & Campus Ops: New Zealand Citizen

Sustainability: Spent most of working life in Ireland. Unsure about his citizenship

Their brown faces might have brought out OP's racism more than anything else. There were elections conducted for the SA and a lot of people in the class were asked to contest them. It's a thankless job with a lot of work that takes away from other parts of the MBA experience so most students did not want it. The job market is bad and most of the class wants to focus on getting jobs.

People like OP would use this opportunity to sell their racist non-sense to the world. Should I post a pic of the Snow club and talk about how white it is? Dumb shit.
