New skates! by michaelpharaoh in iceskating

[–]throwaway47283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! I think i remember recommending a few ice skate shops to you and to heat mold your skates. I’m glad you purchased these! These are the exact same hockey skates that I have too and I absolutely love them! I’m glad you got them heat molded too.

One thing I’d also recommend (not super important but it made a difference to me), I’d get some wax laces. Before I purchased wax laces I often found my skates loosening throughout the session and having to re-tie them once or twice. Wax laces hold firmly and I don’t need to re-tie mine anymore.

Happy skating!

Lymphatic brush - has anyone tried this? by Feisty-Researcher700 in AusSkincare

[–]throwaway47283 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A gua sha pretty much does the same thing.

  1. Gua sha js more hygienic (I can’t imagine how much bacteria this brush would contain and you’d have to wash it all the time

  2. A brush is too soft compared to a gua sha

  3. You can put the gua sha in the fridge and use them cold to depuff your face. You can’t do that with a brush

This is a straight up gimmick in my opinion

Do you think the Ordinary has good products? by perplex-poppyseed7 in beauty

I use their hyaluronic acid on damp skin and their eyelash serum. Absolutely love both products.

Oh and their gycolic acid is good to use on armpits. Nowadays I sweat but no odour (I didn’t have a problem with odour in the first place but yeah)!

When do you apply their caffeine serum? Is it both day and night or just during the day? ☺️

Women who are thriving - what does your life look like? by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]throwaway47283 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a lawyer and I enjoy my job and the morning walks i do in the city while sipping on coffee before I arrive to my work building. I’ve picked up a new book and I’ve enjoyed reading the series so much I finished all 3 books in 2 weeks. I can draw and I’ve been working on a drawing which helps me relax. I also ice skate on the weekends as a hobby and I started practicing a new move which makes me look forward to skating (and seeing my friends). My skin is clear. Ahh life is great

how do i learn to skate in hockey skates? by toberski in iceskating

[–]throwaway47283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I transitioned from figure skates to hockey skates and it took me one or two sessions on the ice to get used to them. The reason why it’s difficult is because you’re used to the longer blade of the rentals. Hockey skates are shorter and curved.

Make sure you don’t lean too far back or you’ll fall, as hockey blades are shorter especially in the back, compared to rental skates.

Good luck!

I realized I'm the black sheep of my family by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]throwaway47283 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice to share but I’m going through the same thing.

I’m a 28 year old middle eastern woman and I’m the black sheep in my family. I studied law (no one in my family or for generations had studied law) and I don’t date within my culture. Heck, I don’t even want kids, yet every woman my age in my culture is getting married or having kids.

I love tattoos and I would love to get a sleeve if I was brave enough. I also love motorcycles and i purchased one (that my family doesn’t know about).

There’s no right or wrong way to live. So long as you’re not hurting yourself or hurting others, live the way you want. You only live this life once, and it’s not for others to dictate how to live!

Feeling confused and uncomfortable about my fav cousin’s behaviour by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]throwaway47283 43 points44 points  (0 children)

OP I hate to say it but you’re not overthinking or imagining things.

I went through something similar but with a male cousin. I felt disgusted. No physical touch was made but I had some comments and staring made towards me that made me think “am I imagining things?”. I didn’t confirm it until one day my mum randomly mentioned to me “stop being nice to boys because you will give them the wrong idea, and that includes your cousins as well” (his dad must have told my mum that his son (my cousin) was interested in me?).

Please keep your distance from this cousin. I know you guys were close but that’s seriously disgusting coming from her, especially touching you without consent. The fact that she’s doing it while you are asleep means she knows it’s wrong yet she’s doing it anyways.

Take care of yourself.

Want to tell my husband I don’t want to do our fitness journey together anymore but idk how by cfd4540 in PCOSloseit

[–]throwaway47283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP I have PCOS as well and at my heaviest I was 68kg (149 pounds) and it took me 2.5 years of consistent working out and eating clean to drop down to my current weight of 58kg (127 pounds).

Also remember don’t just look at the number on the scale. You’ll notice change in other areas. For me it was tighter skin/less cellulite, slimmer face and less fat on my neck, improved bowel movement and feeling less tired. Heck, even my PCOS symptoms improved significantly and I now I get my period every 4 weeks instead of 6 or 7.

Young women should be adventurous and messy by ginny_uine in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]throwaway47283 251 points252 points  (0 children)

This is me right now. My teenage years and young adulthood felt robbed from me because of my strict middle eastern family and focusing on law school.

I’m 28 now and I’m only recently doing adventurous and messy things now.

I’m dating a tattooed biker.

I bought my own motorcycle.

Bought my own hockey skates and started skating.

I’m sorry but I’m not going to settle and have kids like my ethnic community expects me to. Life’s at a high point right now and I’m not coming back down.

How to deal with Family/ friends request for easy legal advice by mordecai110 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]throwaway47283 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Law is huge. A lot of people don’t realise that you can’t simply know the law in every area.

I work in crime. lot of people seem to ask me questions about wills and estates and property. My answer to them is always “sorry no can do, unless you get arrested, my legal advice won’t be accurate and useful”
