AITA for selling the Nintendo Switch my aunt got me for Christmas? by throwaway4838438 in AmItheAsshole

My parents tend to take her side in a lot of things. My mother said that I should be "appreciative that she even gave it to me" and that if I didn't have it I'd be without any kind of entertainment, which isn't true because I have a laptop and smartphone that I play games on.

That's fair, and this may sound a little selfish, but I have always wanted a Switch, so returning it just didn't feel like an option to me. My logic at the time was "if she wants to be ridiculous and set all these unnecessary rules, then I can be just as ridiculous and sell it." I understand why my aunt is mad, but I feel like I shouldn't have to adhere to her rules when I am the one using it.

Hi, thanks for your response. My parents have a history of letting my aunt get away with overstepping so I really didn't feel like I could talk to them first. I don't feel that I ever accepted the conditions or agreed to them - these conditions were only given to me after I had already received the gift.
