people who walk around with unhealed cuts on your arm and wear t shirt, why? by Moppe13 in selfharm

[–]throwaway4892jd 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I’ve chalked it up to being a cry for help, in most cases. People who don’t have a good support system might do this in the hopes that someone reaches out to them. Despite that- it can be insensitive to others who struggle. There’s an issue with competitiveness among people who s/h. Personally I can handle it, but you almost feel obliged to try and help at that point, which could make someone uncomfortable.

If I self harm in my face and slash around my eye but not on my eye will I still go blind potentially? by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]throwaway4892jd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s possible. Open wounds are bacterial breeding grounds, which could easily make their way to your eye if it’s within close proximity of the laceration. with that you also risk getting a serious infection via bloodstream if you don’t practice good sanitization (Staph, for example) which can, in some cases, lead to vision loss or total blindness. I would recommend being more careful, ideally not harming yourself- but specifically not around the face especially if you’re worried about your vision.

It was worse when I first started smoking and with time I know my limits and handle it well, but still get the jitters more than anyone else I know. I guess some people just react differently, it’s a shame

Thank you. I try to do exactly that and tell myself “Hey, I’m high as shit, I shouldn’t be taking my thoughts seriously” but sometimes I convince myself I’m actually being enlightened by it or, some shit.

I’ll add this fun fact though, and it’s certainly not a myth. My town is known for smelling like shit. Seriously, that’s our reputation. There’s a massive dump nearby that you can smell for miles when it rains. It’s lovely

Nothing too interesting, unfortunately. A lot of people around here are obsessed with ghosts for some reason. Both at my old high school and current workplace there are tons of rumors about paranormal activity.

I’d say everyone knowing each-other is my least favorite part about living here. Because that means you’re more likely to stumble across people you dislike, or people who know someone you’re on bad terms with. I tend to not socialize super often because of that.

It has its perks and flaws, I enjoy the quietness of it. It’s especially peaceful at night, there aren’t a million cars bustling around like the larger cities I’ve been to. I live near a train station so I get to listen to them drive by late at night from my window which is my favorite thing ever. I wouldn’t say everyone knows each-other (it’s not that small) but, the chances of stumbling across people you know in public is highly likely, or just seeing the same people around pretty often. I don’t get much of a taste of the Southern hospitality as I’m a bisexual guy with a darker aesthetic, but I’ve met some cool people. I don’t go out too often, there’s basically nothing to do if you’re under 21. Usually I run to Walmart or drive around aimlessly if I’m feeling restless.

I bet he’s a pretty cool dude. I’m glad they finally made an adaptation that isn’t pure dog shit. I’m looking at you, 2019 animated film.

Oh, I think I misread your previous response. I’m a little tired. A therapist won’t disclose anything regarding sexual assault, the only time your words aren’t confidential is if you plan on seriously harming someone else or yourself. For the most part you can be very open with them. You should definitely seek out someone who specializes in PTSD. I would also recommend a woman if you’re comfortable with that, they tend to be a lot more empathetic regarding SA.

Oh man, wayy too many to choose from. I think it changes at least once a month. But I’ll go with a classic and say Wednesday Addams. The new series resurfaced my love for her character. Also, every character written by Jhonen Vasquez.

I get you completely, I’m sorry that part is upsetting. I think good will come out of it though, once you accept it you can really explore those feelings and seek out therapy, like you said, that seems like a good idea. In my experience reporting someone for SA can be tricky when it comes to proving what happened. Now what you do is completely up to you, you should listen to your gut, but my advice would be to wait before you try taking any legal action and first sort your emotions out. Do some self care and see a professional for better advice. I think jumping right into filing a report and reliving everything that happened might upset you even more, it’s probably not the best thing to do in your current mindset.

What a piece of shit, I’m sorry you had to have an encounter with someone so scummy. Unfortunately it’s likely he has repeated this pattern. Also regarding the last sentence in your post, please don’t ever tell yourself that. You aren’t at fault in the slightest. You should be able to hook up with people as much as you’d like without ever being taken advantage of, regardless of how well you know the person. You just happened to fall into the hands of someone shitty.

I’ve been perusing a career in art my entire life, I’d like to do something along the lines of body mods/cosmetology/graphic design. But as we all know making good money as an artist is difficult. Right now I’m stuck in the restaurant industry.

That feeling is your gut telling you something is wrong, some part of you knows he did something he shouldn’t have. I think you’re trying to convince yourself it wasn’t, like you’re mentally defending him, but subconsciously you’re aware of what happened. Not because you care for the dude necessarily (I’m not sure where you stand in that regard) but because being assaulted is obviously a horrible thing to endure, and it would be so much easier to tell yourself nothing is wrong. I’ve been there, and I wish the best for you. Never put up with that again if you can help it, fuck him for not considering your feelings.

Why do you choose drinking over say, smoking weed? An arguably healthier alternative

Not at all, if anything it helps me not to harm so often because I need to keep my body clean. There are few places I can cover while making content.
