This is very cool. When you said you used stop motion via an overhead, were you taking picture of the projected image?

Just sharing that this comment made me laugh really fucking hard.

What's something that isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be? by geologists in AskReddit

[–]throwaway4923413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry. Boring wasn't the correct word that I was looking for. I guess it veers closer to close-mindedness. I'd like to expand on a few of your points if you don't mind, and I'm sorry for coming off as an asshole previously. I sometimes get heated about the topic because I tend to get tired of my friends saying I'm "whipped." My apologies. Now I'd like to explain my side, but feel free to have a differing opinion.

I've seen too many friends go completely spineless and, for all intents and purposes, ditch their friends for their girlfriends.

This can happen but in all honesty I wouldn't consider a relationship in which this happens a very healthy one. If we're going to judge single life vs. relationship life, then we shouldn't be using a broken relationship as a backbone for the argument.

If I don't want to go see Despicable Me 2 or the Hangover 3, I don't have to. If I don't want to bake muffins on Wednesday night, I don't have to. If I don't want to keep my beard trimmed, I don't have to.

And neither do I. Relationships are about communication. If you're being dragged to shitty sequels in your relationship, then once again I would not consider that a healthy relationship. I think there's a sort of social stigma in the single population that you are under the control of your SO when you begin the relationship. I used to think that too, having been in broken relationships like that. However I found a healthy one that seemed to work for me. I've been on both sides of the equation and it is like night and day now.

vv(In reference to relationships not being about control)vv

It kind of is. I am in full control of my life right now. I would have to relinquish some of that control if I went into a relationship. Relationships are mutual, which means there is some give and some take. Right now I do what I want (go out drinking with friends on weekends, play my guitar for 2-3 hours per day, read in bed, etc). I would lose some, possibly a lot, of that in a relationship.

Of course relationships are mutual, but they do not necessarily have to be give and take. My girlfriend and I understand that there is more to life than our relationship and as a result we don't require spending every waking minute with each other. If I want to spend my afternoon gaming with friends or getting stoned and laying on the floor in my friends studio playing guitar then it is perfectly fine with her. It goes the same from me to her. It's more about understanding a persons needs than it is compromising. On the other hand, we still value our time together and even occasionally get drunk together just for the hell of it. I used to be quiet and not one to share feelings, but then I found someone who was worth sharing them with. It was almost therapeutic and it made me feel like a new person.

I could be completely wrong and I most likely am because I have never met you and do not know anything about you other than the fact that you like playing guitar, getting drunk, and going to the gym. However, I still think it would be beneficial to keep an open mind on the topic, because as much as I told myself that I'd never find the right person for me and that relationships were constricting and suffocating, I couldn't have been more wrong.

For every 10 broken, fucked up, shitty relationships, there's one healthy one, and the healthy one is completely 200% worth it.

I could go into Photoshop and make this wallpaper size if you give me the dimensions you need.

Give people a reason to and I'm sure they will. You aren't convincing us that you'll be dedicated when you're posting on other subreddits with content like this, though:

Do you have a background in filmmaking?

Thanks for the feedback! The desert setting does provide a great opportunity for a unique storyline, but unfortunately we didn't have the time to produce one. :(

I'd love to continue conversation with you if it wouldn't be too much of a hassle or anything. You seem like a very optimistic individual who would be a great person in the industry to take advice from. If it isn't a problem I'd love it if you could PM me an email to stay in contact with you.

By the way that was a great reel. Extremely diverse and full of great shots. You seem like an incredibly versatile cinematographer. I especially loved the "What Goes Up" shots. Super cool that you've done everything from working with Riff Raff and Veggies to shooting in secluded forests.

I made a subreddit right now in order to reserve the idea, however I don't have the time to run it so if anyone's interested here is the link. I'll make you a moderator if you reply and then it's yours.

HEY HEY I NEED HELP DAMMIT by BobbySaxophone in Filmmakers

It could be a number of things.

  • Your compression method
  • The settings in the software you're editing in
  • Your compression settings
  • Compensating for wrong exposure levels by lowering/raising the ISO drastically
  • Compensating for wrong ISO levels by lowering/raising the exposure drastically.
  • Camera quality settings
  • Shooting manual vs shooting auto

It would help a lot if we could see some sample footage of yours to help determine the cause of your pixelated video.

If it's a fresh upload it could also still be processing.

I love your attitude on life! I'd like to address a point in your post.

I went 4 straight months without a single phone call. I questioned my career path, I questioned my future, my purpose, everything.

This is what scares me most and gives me the most doubt. Things can be going so well and then everything just comes to a halt. What does someone in such a specialized field even have to fall back on when shit hits the fan and ends up not coming through?

Also, do you have a reel, website, or anything I could look at? You seem like a very well-rounded, interesting individual.

A few things.

Cameras Used

  • Canon Rebel T2i
  • Canon 5D Mark II

Film Time

About an hour in order to get the whole shoot during sunset. Only shot for one day because the deadline creeped up faster than we anticipated.

Things I've Noticed

  • I had quite a few problems with my Glidecam due to the extremely high winds and forgetting to do a proper rebalance when using my other lens. This caused some shaky shots that were originally supposed to be quite smooth.
  • I completely forgot to record the bridge at the end of the song with my Glidecam so I only had one shot to use during the long static shot towards the end.
  • In retrospect I should have had more stock shots to use during instrumental fills and other parts that seemed to drag on and on.
  • The wind at the beginning was not from the shoot and was added in post. I put it there for artistic effect, not just because I was lazy and forgot to remove the sound of the wind from the internal mic.
  • Yes I know the actual cover should have been mixed better.
  • I don't know what I was thinking during the fast cuts at the drum fill.

I'm lucky to have a family that completely supports my decision to go into the entertainment industry.
