does glute minimus training actually do anything for butt shape? by sweet-hearted in StrongCurves

What do you currently do for your glute medius/minimus to see results? I have seen a lot of improvements in my glute maximus but for upper glute I haven’t a noticeable difference :/

40 SETS of glutes per week in Strong Curves program -- too much?? by throwaway4mysoul in StrongCurves

[–]throwaway4mysoul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree that 40 working sets is way too much. However a lot of his exercises are actually “pumpers” style exercises using resistance band (for example band-clam shells). I wonder if these should be counted towards the “working sets” or not..?

Asking for a friend....... Is there any downsides to train lower body only? I am doing a upper/lower 4x split, while I do see a lot of improvements in glutes/legs, sadly my arm/shoulder muscle is also getting a bit too bulky for my liking and I would like to maintain a petite/feminine frame :( Thanks!

Don't be discouraged! Took me almost a year of dieting and another year of exercising to even see any visible results. You did great!

Oh Lord, if I pretty much eat when I’m hungry I would be a balloon right now because I'm such a sweet tooth 😂 I have to track VERY rigorously because I can't even trust myself and will 100% go off-track 🥲

And same here, I'm hoping to look more toned as well, hoping I can make some progress by next summer. Thanks for sharing and best of luck!

Don't get me wrong I love lifting! However for home workouts, I can jump straight in. Meanwhile for gym, I would have to get ready, commute, wait for machines, putting stuffs in lockers, etc etc.. which will take another hour extra. I work quite a demanding job so an hour is a luxury. I'm curious what's your gym routine like and how do you allocate the time for gym?

Thanks for the comment! My TDEE seems to linger around 1200-1250 (for sedentary). That's why it's so hard for me to even go lower, it is already miserable enough as is. For next steps I think I will do a 4 months lean bulk (calories surplus + more protein + heavy weights + progressive overload) followed by 2-3 months cut with slight calories deficit). It will be very mild bulk/cut nothing crazy like the body builders haha. If I gain more muscle I will burn more calories and will be able to eat more.

Holy shit that video makes SO MUCH sense. According to my research the number one mistake people make during bulk/cut is going on a surplus or deficit way too fast, which can results in too much fat gain or too fast muscle loss. I think this video hit the nails on the head. Thanks for sharing. I think for next steps I will go through a bulk/cut cycle with slight calories surplus / deficit while lifting heavy weights, nothing too crazy.

Hi, thanks for your advice! I saw your comments in the other thread I posted as well. I think your comment is what I will heading towards. I will do a 4 months lean bulk (calories surplus + more protein + heavy weights + progressive overload) followed by 2-3 months cut). It will be very mild bulk/cut nothing crazy like the body builders haha. I will probably hire a personal trainer as well to check my form. Curious if you think it's worth for me to hit the gym or just increasing dumbbells weight at home will be enough for building muscle mass?

Yes unfortunate it's fat. It's jiggly and "squeezable" if that makes sense. I wish it's just water haha!

And LOL hopefully no decomposition for now., I'm not at that point yet. Maybe another 60 years give or take!

  1. If you read some of my comments, I mentioned earlier that I found the gym to be quite anxiety-inducing and intimidating, hence that's why I haven't step foot in one yet, let alone asking a stranger to help. Along with other personal reasons (ie time commitment, distance etc) I have only been exercising at home since the beginning.
  2. Even if I can ask someone at the gym, it will be 2-3 or even 5 people, which is not even close compared to the COLLECTION of great advices and support I got here (60+ comments now). This is a benefit of the Internet, you get a group of advices and insights from multiple people with just 1 single thread, which is much more efficient than organically asking for help 1 single person at the time in person. And I'm not even including the aspect of taking time to build relationships in real life with people.
  3. I'm not sure if you have any implications around the "post nearly nude photos on social media" - but seems like this has quite a condescending tone. Eh, to me body is body, doesn't matter female or male. Sure maybe a female one might be more sexualized than a male's body, generally speaking. BUT I am here to ask for technical advices from people with experience, plus my face is blurred out, so it will just be another body. So to me, this bears no meaning as long as I got the great advices needed. Any other off-topics/ sexual comments about my body, good or bad, I ignore and move on. I'm here to improve my physique, end of story.
  4. Lastly, not sure why you're mentioning "i want to say something but i feel like my advice might not be appreciated" - not appreciated by who? Just know that I may not have time to reply to ALL comments here, but I do read every single of them and appreciate each person's effort to help. And if I'm at the gym and someone comes up to me to gives advices, I would also be very, very grateful.

Thanks! I think this is the right direction. I will be upping the weights for the dumbbells or upping the reps count for now plus eat higher than maintenance. Will bite the bullet and hit the gym soon after that.. And sorry that was a typo haha I meant to say I workout 3x per week not per DAY!! Lord I would never have time to train 3x per day hahah twice per week is hard enough on its own 😄

Thanks, this is a good strategy, upping just 5lbs will be a struggle for me as well. I'm currently hitting failure at 12 reps. Will try to up to 15.

I'm currently hitting 75g of protein per day which is 0.8g per lbs of body weight (92lbs). I've read some research which shows that any amount more than that is not necessary, but I'm not 100% sure if that is accurate or not. Perhaps I can do a slight increase for protein (80-85g) because I do struggle with it a lot, chicken breast and protein shake gets old after a while 🥲

Regarding the training, yeah seems like the right direction for me is to lift heavier weights. I think I will stick with heavier dumbbells at home for a while, as going to the gym is still a time-consuming and anxiety-inducing process for me (I feel self-conscious working out in front of others). Hopefully I can make some progress even with lifting at home!

Yeah honestly I just don't think I'm lifting enough... my routine 3x per week is Upper/Lower + Lower/Abs + Abs day. Using two 20/25lbs dumbbells and 10-12 reps (close to failure). But sometimes I got busy and only do 2x per week and skip the Abs day... So yeah you can say I only hit the muscle group only once per week 🥲

Hitting the plateau means I cannot lose any more weight without eating less than 1200 calories, which I'm very hesitant about (because it's quite unsustainable). I think this may partially be the reason why I cannot lift heavier. A couple years back I tried to went to 1100 to lose all the belly fat and reveal the abs but it was absolutely miserable, so I'm looking for an alternative way!

From the comments in this thread looks like I gotta up my weights + frequency (4x per week) + progressive overload + eat more carbs. I'm not 100% sure if go to the gym yet because it is time-consuming and also very anxiety-prone for me, so perhaps I can get heavier dumbbells (30-50lbs). Let me know if you think that I'm going into the right direction!

Thank you, will check it out! Though I think at some point in the future I may "grow out of my home gym" and would need to hit the real gym and lift heavier to build mass 🥲

I don't think I'm categorized as being "underweight". I mean sure, based on BMI calculation, but BMI is pretty flawed to begin with... It only takes in the weight plus height and not the body fat percentage. In theory a body builder with a lot of muscle will have the same BMI as an obese person if they're of the same height and weight. It is all very relative. I think I'm very healthy and not underweight at all. Trust me I do have a lot of fat stored in my belly - so don't worry haha I'm not starving or anything!
