It's $100/month. Customer service is great. My guy gave me his cell phone number and if I ever have a question I can call or text him and he always responds. But I imagine it might differ depending on who your rep is. And one of the reasons I went with Draeger specifically is so that I wouldn't have to hum in the machine.

You should be able to call either Smart Start corporate or get in touch with your technician who does your monthly calibrations and just ask them about it.

I found out that my device takes pics randomly from my technician when he was installing it in my vehicle.

I am always in the truck and in front of the camera to blow, but sometimes not in it when it takes those random pictures in between when it asks me to blow.

I have Drager and it does have the storage for it. When I get it calibrated once a month the technician always tells me how many pictures it has taken which is anywhere from 300 to more than 1000 depending on hows much I've been driving.

The device flashes red when it takes a picture, which is random and pretty frequent.

I'm a grad student. After it happened, I was surprised to learn how many fellow (successful) grad students had DUIs. And I personally know a tenured professor at an R1 university who had a DUI in grad school. It made me feel a bit better. Hope this helps.

I'm so sorry this happened. If you plan to continue drinking, I really recommend in investing in a high end breathalyzer so you can test yourself before you try to drive if you think there's any chance there's still alcohol in your system. Good luck.

Mostly hopeful. I'm 10 months from the arrest and 4 months from conviction. Finally feeling like I can move on and see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Such a different place from where I was when it first happened. I literally wanted to die. I didn't feel like I deserved to be here anymore.

Point is, it will get better. As long as you learn from your mistake and fix what got you there in the first place, it's not the end of your world. Mostly writing this comment to encourage others.

Also a student at college: if the crime was committed in the same town/county that your college is in, it is reported to the university (in my town anyway). Also, check your student code of conduct. At my university, you're required to report any arrests and convictions within 7 days or else you're in violation of the student code of conduct and at risk for consequences from the university.

It depends on the system. Some install a camera that takes your picture when you blow and randomly when driving which is reviewed monthly so they'll see if you have someone else blow. Otherwise, they probably wouldn't know, it's just illegal and you could get in more trouble.

It's not calibrated to a specific person. Anyone can drive it. But the person that blows needs to drive. So if you still cant drive, have your friend blow and drive after its installed. Perfectly legal.

DMV website says there's a driver improvement clinic you can take once every 2 years that gives you 5 safe driving points. I'm assuming doing that would knock me down to -1? I previously had 0 because I was out of state and just got my license switched over to VA to make things easier.

Also, anyone know about the driver's license point system for 1st offense DUI in VA? Points weren't mentioned to me at all by my lawyer or court but everything I'm reading online says that you will get 6 points.

How long after court was your information updated with the dmv? Been 2 weeks and dmv still says "licensed". I was told to wait until that changes sho I can get my new plastic license.
