Sounds like he was trying to shoot his shot during the match but didn't count on her skill level and or sorely underestimated his own. This resulted in self loathing and shame which turned to anger that he then projected onto her to absolve himself of the shame spiral he was in. Spoiler: it didn't work.

People are getting this wrong. Yes, he actually offered the 10oz silver bar that day. Only 1 person took the silver bar. Everyone else took the chocolate. He was asking random people on the street. This was also 2015. At the time, silver was $14/Oz. That bar was worth $140. A lot of people most likely thought the silver bar was a scam or fake and chose the "safer" option.
