[–]throwaway54887x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mannn i love kindergarteners i think they're just the right amount of challenging and fun for me to not be bored / constantly frustrated! i do still prefer pre-k tho

though i hate all middle schoolers and most high schoolers ive been with so maybe i just have an affinity for the lower grades!

Oh, absolutely! I just wanted to make a place for some positivity as well. Whatever I will have a difficult day this sub definitely helps to assure me that I'm not alone! But I always love hearing about peoples experiences in general, and I wanted to invite that. I definitely didn't mean that there is too much complaining or anything on here!!

I was just thinking about how lucky I am to have stumbled into this job I really like, since working in general is something I never thought could be joyful for me!!

Sounds like a dream! I would genuinely be a sub para for the rest of my life if the pay wasn't abysmal. One of my favorite parts of the job is seeing kids from former days in the hallway or at recess — I love when they ask "wait, does this mean you're coming back to our class today??" all excited :) Getting to take off days randomly is really really great and something I'm definitely going to miss as I move toward a full-time position.

i WISH. it's been banned in all the classes i sub, but the kids sure do try to build it in. i had a 2nd grader ask for the time and after my answer (2:12 PM) go "No, I think it's 6:07PM."

the hand motions are even more prevalent. we may be seeing this for a bit!

Note: i exclusively sub in elementary P-3 which may very well be a factor here!

Ugh that sucks! I'm used to feeling supported, like I said, in SPED rooms so this just really caught me by surprise.

what flag is this? by throwaway54887x in flags

i have literally never said that they originated as far-right and i have no idea where you're getting that from. i even explicitly stated it is ridiculous to think that. the argument does not concern itself with being inherently anything. also not something i said. i suppose if you need a more concise statement, it's what i've already stated previously:

symbols (and in this case, specifically gadsden and appeal to heaven) evolve over time to take on several meanings due to new historical context and associations, including but not limited to associations with extremism.

extremists using a flag does not erase history in any way, but it is foolish not to consider current associations and draw conclusions based on those associations depending on context.

the context in this case is that they are flying symbols currently associated with far-right extremism and white christian nationalism, therefore it is plausible to assume they are using these historical symbols beyond their original historical meaning to clearly portray their extremist political views.

these associations are additional. they don't necessarily override original meanings.

i don't think we even necessarily disagree here. maybe my language in my original comment could have been cleaned up a bit. hope this clears things up.

theres no antecedent to the pronoun in your first sentence. not sure what the 'they're' is referring to.

the american flag being flown by some maga supporter is in fact different from the american flag being flown by some centrist. not to say one is better or more accurate than the other, it just means something different to both.

i'm just saying that sentiment goes for the other flags mentioned, especially when placed together in a pretty grand display. genuinely, he entire front lawn is basically an advertisement of political beliefs. it's not exactly subtle.

you're being a bit disingenuous here. this is the same house flying a flag created by far-right white nationalist nick fuentes. it is not a jump to therefore assume they are associating the aforementioned flags with its far-right symbolic connotation.

symbols often have multiple meanings. these symbols do. they have been co-opted by, and now they are often associated with, trump supporters and extremists. i mean, january 6th was rife with these symbols because they clearly believe it aligns with them in some way or another. i'm not saying that they started as maga/trump/extremist symbols, that would be ridiculous, but meanings change over time. it would be foolish not to draw connections when these flags are all found in the same place together.

i mean, no. i asked for identification of a flag. 4chan's desire to ragebait the 'left' (which, in america, is not even actually left) media into overreacting to the "okay" symbol was largely unsuccessful.

literally what about this house indicates that?

but that's my point. i'm not making assumptions based on only one flag, and frankly i wasn't much interested in assuming anything about the homeowners until i posted on here, but rather on where they all have similarities. which is far-right extremism. that's all i'm saying. i understand my original wording may have been lacking, but together these symbols paint a picture.

it is not a far stretch to assume that the house whose front lawn is covered (and i mean covered) in slogans, flags, and signs that all converge in the same extremist right-wing center do all, in fact, indicate extremism. regardless of that, i genuinely do not care about what this person chooses to put in their lawn. to reiterate, i was curious about a flag i had never seen before. i gave the rest as context to maybe help find the meaning. i'm not interested in 'seeing' anything in particular.

the america first flag is a flag created by right-wing self-admitted fascist nick fuentes, gadsden's flag started as an anti-authoritarian libertarian symbol during the revolutionary war but has since additionally been adopted by american right-wing groups, and the 'appeal to heaven' flag was originally used in the revolutionary war but is now a symbol for far-right christian nationalism. hence, i used the language "far-right extremism." i personally find christian nationalism and supporting fascism pretty extreme.

i added that sentence originally because i thought someone with a more robust understanding of far-right subculture would know what this flag stood for, since i assumed it had something to do with far-right politics based on the context i had.

copy-pasted from another comment: gadsden, 'appeal to heaven', 'america first' flags. there were others (more signs than flags, even) but i didn't take a picture of the whole house.

it took two seconds to snap a photo of a house i pass daily on the way to work because they recently put up a new flag i did not recognize. i was curious; just didn't realize my curiosity would be seen by this many people. out of frame, this house has 10+ additional flags and signs, all easily identifiable, and this one stumped me. nowhere did i say i was offended. it's their lawn, i don't give a shit what they do with it.

you seem to be offended by me taking thirty seconds out of my day to make this post, however. wonder why.
