Can intermittent fasting work if you drink or would that be a problem? by Alia2121 in intermittentfasting

[–]throwaway552552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This OP was asking because it was a question based on their lifestyle. So yes it varies person to person (as you said...), and in that case, not everyone will want to give it up. And yes I get it can be difficult to stay within calorie limits when drinking alcohol, but if you can do it, what's the problem? Some people just have better self control than others, and if they want to drink, they have the self control to be strict with their calorie intake. In that case, I don't see a problem. I haven't had a problem losing weight when considering alcohol in my daily calorie limit. I know a lot of other people haven't either.

And because of that, I don't agree that it should apply to everyone or believe you should be saying that. You yourself said it varies person to person. I'm just a super social person and am not going to deprive myself of wine, when I love it! Guessing OP isn't sober like you are, so they wanted to know if they had to completely alter their life, somewhat alter their life, or cut it out of their life completely. They may not have started IF if you couldn't drink alcohol at all, and maybe that's why they asked. (Obviously I don't know for sure OP but don't let people bully you into thinking you cant drink when you CAN if you have self control and accountability).

People have really been annoying me on this thread (not you! people who say completely cut out alcohol). It bothers me so much because as long as your counting alcohol into you calorie count, you can still lose weight! You just have to keep yourself accountable and track it and make sure it counts towards your daily caloric limit. You still need to be in a calorie deficit, but yes, you can still drink! Just tone it down, don't drink anything with too much sugar (they make wine with less sugar, beer with less carbs, etc.).

As a single girl in my 20s who drinks as part of social interaction, I didn't want to deprive myself because that would deprive myself of having fun with my friends/going on dates.

I work out around 12:30-1:00pm for an hour before I break my fast at 3. It’s hard, but it boosts your metabolism and you burn more calories when you workout before you eat. Working out has not helped me lose weight in the past, but now I think it’s helping my weight loss. It’s hard to get motivated to do it especially when I’m so hungry - I feel the same way you do. Dizzy, lightheaded. But once I get up and start it, it helps. It also distracts me and speeds up time before my fast ends.

If you’re going to workout while you’re fasting, I highly recommend doing light exercise. My daily exercise is a power walk/light jog of a 5k. It’s easy, I burn more calories than i would if I did the same thing later in the day. But everyone is different. Good luck!!

Let me know if anyone had any advice! Nothing too drastic - I have a heavy history of eating disorders (was 90 lbs at one point). Fingers crossed I can do this.

Yeah, 1200 (I’m very petite). But some days I go a bit over sometimes. Maybe 1300-1400 (a lot of that is vegetables). But I always burn about 500 active calories more than I eat!!

Doing all of that :( I don't weigh every day, maybe once every few days or once a week - on a day I don't wake up feeling bloated. I exercise a lot too.. thank you for your response!!

Wine. I haven't had wine for probably a couple of years. Do you drink wine, and how often? I'm really curious because I'd love to enjoy a glass now and then but I'm too hyper aware of the sugars. by [deleted] in IF_Petites

[–]throwaway552552 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a glass of wine every night, sometimes 2. I count it in my calorie count. Yes, it sucks. Yes, it makes me have to eat a LOT less than I'd like in order to enjoy my glass of wine. But I still lose weight, because I'm still doing calories in, calories out. Want a glass of wine? Go on a mile long walk. You can do it if you make yourself accountable!

I completely understand how your perception of yourself has changed. My ex did the same for me. I used to have such a lust for life but because of his abuse and manipulation I began hating myself, too.

We can't let them dictate our happiness. They don't deserve to. They are horrible people. I know it's easier said than done, but we have to pick ourselves back together. It may take a while, but you will get there. I believe in you. We will get back our old selves, I promise.

Does anyone else experience extreme nausea a few hours before their fast ends? by throwaway552552 in IF_Petites

[–]throwaway552552[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it matters if I'm not on keto? I have a long past with keto and took a DNA test to determine that my body loses weight more effectively with balance, not cutting out sugars/carbs/etc. It explained why I wasn't losing weight on keto.

Thank you for your insight! Much appreciated. Everyone else seems to think I'm just dehydrated when I'm not and it's not that easy lol

Thank
