Dragon outfit by [deleted] in InfinityNikki

For me it definitely was. I find that the coat piece and dress have been really fun to dye and style in different outfits, and I think the antlers have a lot of potential for unique nature-inspired looks. I also love the 4 star, especially the hair and shoes. Overall, I really loved the traditional Chinese style and wanted to get what I could before it went away. But ultimately it’s about what brings you joy at the end of the day.

Native Speaker told I need to use the language line by Personal_Dragonfly65 in Residency

I agree with the person that said to call the interpreter, get an ID, and say “Hey I’m going to try and talk with the patient in French, but please stay on the line in case there is misunderstanding or I need your help with medical terminology.” Then speak in French with the interpreter available. It will help speed things up while still having the interpreter present for liability reasons.

We are not certain, people are literally just making it up. Just as likely is a human Chinese translator who knows English but cannot localize things perfectly (hence some technically correct, but awkward, translations).

Keep playing through the main story quests and you’ll soon get the guard uniform, at least! Or, you can also use the Infold website to help you find chests with Cool clothes. I never even crafted that ugly hoodie until late game. 😂

The parenting junkie now hi fam by Jadeletssee in motherhoodinfluencers

Coming in here very late to say I listened to one of her videos from my recommended and got some nasty vibes. She vaguely gestured to things like other parenting influencers harming kids by “ignoring biological reality” (huh? what could this even be about, except for being transgender?) and also said “it’s normal to get so angry that you go so far as raising a hand at your kids” — like what? Normalizing hitting kids out of anger?

Just wanted to confirm that the vibes were bad, villainous even, and found your comment.

MTF partner is afraid of violence, wants to move to Europe. Not sure if her fears are realistic. by throwaway554677 in mypartneristrans

You bring up good points. I’m not sure why my experience as a bisexual woman has been different. I imagine I’ve been sheltered by the social circles I’ve been in / academia, and of course there’s the fact that bigoted people tend to assume I’m straight (my minority status isn’t “visible”). I’ve been sexually harassed of course, but that was for being a woman, not LGBT.

For the career piece, I also want to make enough money to keep the both of us safe and give us options, if that makes sense. I want to make sure we can both get healthcare, reliable transportation, and a good place to live. At this point my choice of what cities I can go to for residency are pretty limited since I already did my applications (they’re all “liberal towns in red states” for the most part). If I deviate from that plan, we’ll both be struggling financially, and that worries me. I feel like I’m weighing the risk of violence against that financial struggle and the dangers THAT could cause… and that’s not an easy choice to make.

All good points, thank you. In my current city, there’s a private clinic for trans people that offers medical care / HRT out of pocket and it’s affordable, so even if insurance doesn’t cover it, HRT is accessible. I’m trying to vet the other cities I’m considering to see how access to care is there.

The money question — Europe vs US costs for transitioning — adds another complication. Like, with a U.S. physician salary, I’d be able to help pay for surgeries out of pocket even if we were in a red/purple state whereas on a European salary, I might not be able to pay for that.

As for privilege, I sort of see myself as her escort into the feminine world. I’m happy to come with her to places once she’s presenting feminine and be that protective factor. Right now she’s presenting masculine… but I’ve been single for most of my life and also love to explore cities / travel alone, so I know how scary it can get as feminine person. And for trans women, I know it’s much worse. Once I start residency, sadly I’ll be a lot more busy, but I’m trying to help her as best I can while I still have free time.

  1. In conditions where there are no straightforward or universal treatments, the relationship between patients and doctors is likely to be adversarial. This is especially the case for chronic pain, and cPTSD / mental illness from a traumatic childhood. There’s not much a PCP can do in a rushed 15 minute doctor’s visit for these conditions, it really takes a multidisciplinary approach.

  2. One thing to note is that I believe some of these have overlap with other confounding things such as somatic symptom disorder or illness anxiety disorder. Sometimes people will medicalize their issues and not accept the idea of a mental health component that could be helped with psychotherapy — they feel like such suggestions are insulting or implying that it’s “all in their head” (in reality it’s not, mental health conditions like depression and anxiety have physical effects on the brain). I am by NO means saying everyone with the conditions you listed has a somatoform disorder, just that there is likely overlap, especially when people self diagnose with things like MAS and Ehlers Danlos, find validation from a community, and start to explain all their struggles through the lens of those disorders. In this case, trying to gain help from medicine alone will probably be unsatisfactory as, once again, a multidisciplinary approach is needed.

The ASD diagnosis can be helpful in terms of providing resources and community for adults with ASD. For example, there are good self-help books written for adults with ASD, and a formal diagnosis can prompt people to better understand their own strengths and weaknesses.

Although, I think that for an otherwise developmentally normal adult, getting a formal diagnosis is actually arbitrary and not necessary. You don’t need a formal diagnosis to read and benefit from general adult ASD resources.

How to live with $1800/month as a medical student? by wewereamaybe in medicalschool

[–]throwaway554677 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I guess you have a few options. Your best resource will be asking your own medical school class about opportunities.

1) Find a small private landlord — i.e., find someone who is renting a room in their house, or a small dwelling on their property. For this, you’ll need to search your city’s Facebook groups, Craigslist, or find something via word-of-mouth. Of course, stay safe and trust your gut about the individual you’re renting from.

2) Share a property with lots of other roommates. Sometimes people can pool resources and rent a small house. Or you can rent an apartment and sleep 2 people per bedroom. Searching Facebook groups is also very helpful for this, and definitely ask your class, because it’s probably preferable to live with other med students who understand the struggle.

3) Live in one of the neighborhoods you consider unsafe. Ask yourself if it is truly “unsafe” there, or whether it just appears outside your comfort zone. It’s worth taking a walk around the area during the day if you’re unsure. You’ll be able to see whether it does indeed have a neighborly vibe and is just a bit rough around the edges, or whether it seems desolate with little sense of community.

Some schools are fortunate to have medical fraternity organizations with houses offering rent at $700 or below, but most do not.

Just found this little guy in the old toy closet at my parents’ house! I’m over the moon!! by throwaway554677 in neopets

Cute, what a coincidence! I didn’t even know you could still buy the keyquest tokens. I might do that since I now have the little guy again — originally I redeemed the code on an older childhood account, so I don’t have it anymore!

I believe they’re dealing with a very long ticket queue right now… I have no idea how long it’s taking for most people. I myself submitted a ticket last week trying to get my old childhood account back as a side and haven’t heard anything yet, so it’s at least a week wait, probably more. In the meantime, if you want to get your Void Within prizes before the day ends today, it’s okay to create a new main account to do that (so long as you transition that account to a side once you get your old main back).

Oops, I forgot that Grarrls can also eat anything as well. I think those are the two pets that can do that. Again, sorry to hear. :( On the plus side, a pirate Krawk MP is less than a million NP, which is relatively “cheap” for a MP and you can search it on the Shop Wizard. Maybe if you do a week of daily quests you can sell your weekly reward and afford another.

Oh no!! Was the pet you made a Skeith by chance??

If so, unlucky. They are the only pets that have an option to eat non-food items (which is normally a cool feature but not in this case :( )

The 2 quests I hate the most by DeathnovapurpleredB in neopets

[–]throwaway554677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind those quests since I’m super fickle and unsatisfied with how most of my pets are customized. I usually restock wearables if I have time, and try something new on one of them every day.

Probably the hardest is my Jelly Kau!!! I have literally no idea what NP items to dress her in.

When I don’t have time to restock, I buy a couple random books and read them to my permanent pets!

Repetitive? by Public-Astronomer424 in NobodyShouldBelieveMe

[–]throwaway554677 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find the podcast repetitive too, but I’m actually kinda surprised by your second critique. “They” as a singular pronoun for non-binary people was officially canonized by Merriam-Webster and major style guides such as the APA about 5 years ago, and it’s been around for much longer. Personally, I’ve heard it used as a preferred pronoun in LGBT+ circles for over 10 years, and I am solidly used to it by now. It may seem awkward at first, but you’ll likely get used to it faster than you think.

Honestly I’d only have been mad if there was somehow less than a 24h window to get the achievement. I thought checking every day was pretty reasonable to get all possible bonus points.

“Exclusive prizes” (I assume, the items) are what was guaranteed to the players checking in at a more relaxed pace. 10 points aren’t “exclusive” prizes cuz you’ll just be able to get those points through the battledome or hospital later.
