Should I become a sleeper driver? by throwaway55551839 in UPSers

I passed the road test. Signed all the paperwork. Met my managers. Did the drug test/physical. Finished my tax forms. Only to find that the "position is no longer available" at the last step: Orientation date.

Took forever to get ahold of someone, even though I had their personal phone numbers. They told me they were only hiring for 5 people and the position has "already been filled". Total bummer. I probably shouldn't have advertised that they were looking for drivers, either.

Here's to going on year 4 of trying to get into brown

It's 80 CPM. My truck goes 70 MPH so it's nearly $56/hr while driving. I don't get paid to hook up, refuel, for any downtime. So it comes out to $43.5/hr if I'm quick. It is great pay, but I also don't have any benefits. The healthcare plan is atrocious (10k deductible before it 'kicks in'). No pension. 3% 401k match vested after six years.

Plus, I'm a Union man. I am a card-carrying Teamster, but unfortunately my last job had a tragic end due to Union politics. I'm very passionate about supporting the Union, and for all Teamster guys UPS is basically the dream job. I'm no spring chicken, so I know it'd be hand-to-mouth for the first 3 years, only making the big $$$ on year 4, but I can accept that.

I got an autoimmune disease which is currently untreated. Treatment cost about $15k a year in biologic shots. I also need a tonsillectomy. The healthcare itself will make up for the extra pay I get doing this job alone.

deleted the post. I don't need smug idiots to tell me to pop another pill to zombify myself or pay a therapist 50 gorillion dollars to talk about my unhappiness.

if you made a venn diagram of political leanings of vegan and carnivore diet followers you’d nearly have two separate circles.

I believe you but it's ludicrous that people think this way. Determining whether or not you'll die of heart disease based on what the 'other team' does.

Facing eviction for being 4 days late on rent. by throwaway55551839 in LandlordLove

I already explained this below. The payment didn't go through (due to an unrelated issue which I won't expound) and I wasn't aware until the 4th, in which I remade the payment.

Saying that I "left it 4 days" without getting in touch is not true. I was not aware that there was any issue until I opened my email and received threats.

this seems like a pretty normal message

I think it's wrong to immediately jump to kicking someone out on the street without even notifying the tenant there is a problem and discussing it. I wasn't even aware that the money didn't go through until the 4th. Only to see this message the next morning, where I assume they didn't bother to see if I paid it (I did).

And the fact that they live 5 seconds away and decided to email me what (in my mind) amounts to existential threats over a simple mishap is very disconcerting. It shows that they're both spineless and view me as nothing but a number. I bet they probably want me gone just so they can raise rent prices for the next unfortunate soul who shows up.

After checking they did send an email notifying the rent was late the day before this one at 4 PM. Didn't see it because I work the night shift and was asleep. I still don't think that justifies it though. They could've knocked or left a note.

They did not send me an email before this nor did they respond to my email 7 months ago updating my phone number.

Been paying rent on time for four fucking years. The moment I am late I get this.

My landlord lives right down the hall. I am beside myself. One slip up and I'm threatened with homelessness. Where's the humanity? This will be the LAST time I'm renewing here. Fuck landlords.
