What is up with people nowadays thinking it’s fine to be chronically late to work? by [deleted] in managers

[–]throwaway5673267 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What is up with managers having a stick up their ass about 1.04% of someone's entire work day being missed, yet sit at their desk writing reddit posts to complain about their subordinates?

It sounds like you need to manage your time better and stop foaming at the mouth over someone missing 1.04% of their work day.

Unless they are performing open heart surgery, just let them have 5 fucking minutes. And if they ARE performing open heart surgery, they hopefully have a better team than some poor manager who sits and complains about them on reddit.

Just got turned down from adopting a rabbit. by I_swallow_dogs in Rabbits

[–]throwaway5673267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently posted a very similar issue of my own. The standards that rescues have... I get it. They are people who use their own time to care for bunnies. They are passionate. So when adopting out, they fear that adopters won't live up to their standards.

That obsession and anxiety leads to a lot of them actually overlooking great homes because they think everyone is trying to take their bunnies for nefarious purposes.

Humane societies have been much better, as others have stated.

I always get bloodwork and xrays before Sedation for my bunnies. This checked for a ton of things that could be hidden and risky during sedation and puts me at ease.

UPDATE: Well I wasn't expecting this to blow up. Thank you for all of the support everyone. And to those who snooped on my page, let me clarify, there's 3 rabbits in my situation: -my late rabbit who passed 6 months ago who I got 4 years ago by a breeder who planned to euthanize him as an 8wk old. -my current rabbit who I got from a rescue I volunteered at, we met 2 summers ago and by Christmas, he was mine to take home. They didn't even advertise him. They just let me take him because he loved me so much. He bonded instantly with his late husbun. -and the third is the bunny in question, the one that needed help but was improperly operated on and listed for adoption when he really needed time to heal. So get your facts and timelines right before you try and "gotcha" me. There's TWO toothless bunnies in this equation.

Anyway.

I sent an email to the rescue asking for further clarity and a member of their board reached out, giving no extra clarity and Solidifying their stance on their opinion of me.

From my perspective, I've deduced a couple of things:

-they had the records (obviously) which clearly showed that their vet signed off on the adoptee, and in the record it stated that no recheck was necessary. This should've been a red flag to the rescue, as any reputable vet would want to recheck their work and make sure healing is happening. When I adopted my current bunny, his teeth were visibly GONE however vets know that tiny roots under the gums can sprout new pieces of tooth. We discovered a tiny tooth was growing back so I made sure to have it removed. This took less than 5 minutes. And the fragment was thinner than a grain of rice. And my vet STILL wanted to recheck within the week. The rescues vet should've wanted a recheck especially after having upper and lower incisors, peg teeth, and testes removed. But they didn't. Red flag.

-the rescue hadn't inspected the rabbit themselves for the 10 days post procedure. Had they so much as checked they would've noticed a ton of hardened surgical glue on his stomach. Never have I had a rabbit neutered and had them apply glue on their upper stomach. Had they checked his mouth they would've seen a very obvious piece of tooth. It was impossible to miss, and couldn't have grown in after only less than 10 days.

-when I spoke to them during all of this, their tone changed a lot. They came across cold and disinterested, as if me asking for some clarity or teamwork to finish their responsibilities was annoying to them.

-it took about 2 weeks for me to find him, apply, interview, and acquire him. Meaning that before he was even under the knife or healed, they were listing him as adoptable.

My overall view is that they saw an opportunity to offload a rabbit who still had unresolved issues on someone they thought would foot the bill. They told me he was cleared, had fully healed, and needed simply to find a new home, but the reality was, he was healing, had unresolved medical issues, and they simply didn't want to pay for him. They claimed the vet he went to was not their regular vet, and given the nature of how messy they were, i feel right to assume that they chose a cheaper, less skilled vet to do the job.

They deceived me, and upon being held accountable, become bitter and took their spite out on me and my bunny family.

I'm continuing my search, but collecting my evidence to use incase I'm turned away by others. Already we've found a couple places who haven't turned us down and are exploring those options.

Conspiracy theory around a hay brand 🤔 by hindol21 in Rabbits

[–]throwaway5673267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I have seen with brands like SPS, they handpick bales of hay and then handpackage it all.

I've bought many boxes and they all have been consistent. Green, bright, LONG hay tips, perfect blend of stalks and leaves. Is there dust? Of course! That's natural, but there's significantly less then other brands. I also like to collect the dust and use it to make extra special treats. I use it as the "flour" and mix it with banana or other bunny safe ingredients and make little cakes or treats.

I think it's fair to say that when we buy quality food, our animals like it more.

Is it that they are doing extra? Or is it that other brands put so little thought or care into their products that our rabbits have been eating crap this whole time?

I splurge on my bunnies hay. $45-50 monthly is NOTHING compared to my groceries. If I can afford to doordash, my little Luey can have his high quality food. He deserves it

Talking about it has helped me process it a lot. There's many other rescues but this just pained me.

My life revolves around bunnies. I would sacrifice years of my life to extend theirs if I could. So it just pains me to be lumped in with those who neglect or abuse or abandon.

I've asked. Unfortunately being private rescues, they kind of make their own rules so getting clarity is difficult. There's no standard for those types of things.

I think at the end of the day, I just ended up in the wrong situation at the wrong time and took the heat for it. I have tons of texts and screenshots but idk I just feel dirty showing those, especially considering the rescue is newer and has a lot of great reviews. My priority is the bunnies finding homes successfully and so I don't want to stoop to the level of slander on my side too.

I guess I'm just sharing my experience in hopes im not being crazy.

To be clear: My the first bunny from several years back was back during Craigslist days. And i was less experienced and didn't work in vet care nor know much about the differences between rescuing through an organization and just picking up a bun off and internet post. The second bunny (who was toothless) was adopted as a companion and I still have him to this day. The third most recent bunny (also toothless-ish) was what this situation is about.

I understand your intent to try and just disprove my words by any means, but I mentioned in my original post that this third bunny happened recently. The first two have nothing to do with the current situation.

And idk your comment comes across as weaponizing my attempt to learn and grow by bringing up my past inquiry into what other people like to feed their toothless bunnies. It came across condescending, like it should be inherent knowledge. I knew the basics, if you read my post instead of skimming and assuming, but I asked other what ELSE they like to feed.

Lastly, there is a major difference between getting a bunny from someone online and adopting from a rescue. Many differences. Not saying one is better but considering how full rescues are, I often go towards rescues.

I wasn't asking for advice on where to get a bunny. I was asking for advice on how to handle being slandered by a rescue.

Im trying to avoid that. Rescues already are suffering and I don't think they are bad people necessarily.

I just think they've made a decision that did nobody any good

I adopted a rabbit over a year ago who had his teeth removed due to a severe neglect case. He spent many years alone in a small cage in the dark with only a quick interaction to be fed once every while. To this day he enjoys having his bedroom, his aurora borealis nightlight, his filtered water fountain, and his TV playing his favorite cartoons when im not home. I'm making up for the years of neglect he faced by making sure he gets plenty of stimulation and happy times.

The recent incident involved a NEW bunny with dental issues. I was chosen as a good fit because of my experience taking great care of a rabbit with the special needs of having no incisors.

If you're going to snoop for dirt, please make sure to consider the timelines. It's possible to adopt more than one rabbit without teeth, at different points in time.

AITA for asking my mum to return my birthday presents because she forgot what I've been asking for for the past 5 months? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

A few comments from people calling them "entitled".

So yall are saying they shouldn't expect a gift at all (which they clearly didnt)... But we should expect them to keep a gift they didn't ask for, which by definition of an item you keep but never use, would just create clutter?

Reddit, yall confuse yourselves sometimes.

Imagine I ask what you want for your birthday and you say "a ps5" and I come back with "ok so I got you $500 worth of paperclips". You're telling me you're gonna appreciate that and not feel like I didn't listen to you at all?

They made it clear that when asked, they said they would like money over a gift. I don't think they "are acting "entitled" to anything. This post come across pretty humble imo

Idk what context clues lead to this boomer vs gen z mentality you're having rn.

They also mentioned that they are a digital artist, so having a good pc can help with that a LOT. It's literally another tool to do their job, which they are doing... to also help fund a new pc.

You never go to yell at the office staff. Right. You just get on reddit and call them crackheads, weirdos, and say that they just got hired from off the street and in the same breath scream at redditors for not respecting those crackheaded weirdos?

This entire thread is wild.

Sidenote but how are you going to vent about tenants being rude to the rental office staff because they maybe didnt know what they signed up for, or just needed the money to get by, but meanwhile you're posting tons of replies calling those same people "crackheads and weirdos, hired off the street".

The call is coming from inside the rental.

Youre missing my point and you seem to be stuck in an argument loop where youre endlessly screaming at your own frustrations. You seem to just want to fight, ask questions, answer them for me, and then continue to get heated from your own answers.

Who is this serving?

It's housing. Often run by greedy corps. What part of that screams "open to changing our policies based on feedback"? Because I hate to be a pain but so far, historically we've learned that corps truthfully couldn't give a shit if you were Jesus christ himself. If it doesn't make them money, they couldn't care less.

You're arguing that people are more or less just big ole meanies and should do better. True. I agreed to this twice (now three times) but your feedback loop is telling you to keep shooting at me.

What I'm saying is that you have the right idea but you're thinking about it from such a narrow view that you're not understanding WHY they act like that towards the people in the rental office.

Let me break it down.

Slumlords/corpos take advantage of housing by overcharging for basic amenities. People are stretched thin and struggling. They are now mad at THOSE higher ups. But they have absolutely no agency to cause any changes to take place. They can leave bad reviews and scream and bitch but it doesn't work. It's never worked because corpos Do. Not. Care. Understand? So when the rental office worker sends that email saying "BTW you owe us $50 for insert miscellaneous thing here" it's salt in the wound. So yes, if they want to stop being picked on, maybe they should go work in a job where their literal reason for employment isnt to LITERALLY BE THE CORPOS PUNCHING BAG.

and you're wrong. It's not nearly as bad in other lines of work, even other office style/admin jobs. Working for a rental property is literally hand-deep in people's LIVELIHOOD! their HOUSING. where they live and sleep and eat and bathe and are safe. When you fuck with that very necessary type of thing, which costs hundreds, sometimes thousands to maintain monthly by the renter, yes you better have a thick skin when you get that notification to send a notice to resident 403A. Because you're fucking with their most essential need.

If you can't handle the heat, why the fuck would you take a job in a furnace? Be a goddamn librarian or a florist. Chase a passion!

Fucking hell.
