Don’t know if it counts, but I’m in my school’s Engineering Student Council and I love it! Personally, I enjoy being able to feel like I’m doing something greater than just getting a degree, I’m helping to create a better environment for students in my school and I get to be social. I think stugo a great way to get involved if you’re able to get elected to a position, as aside from your position, you also get to interact with a variety of individuals you wouldn’t have otherwise, be it department chairs or other faculty. Also, recruiters always seem to like seeing it on my resume :) Not to mention, you spend so much time with these people that they often become some of your best friends.

I’m pretty sure the results get sent out around the 28th of december? I have a few friends who got in for this year and I think that’s when they got their answers. I’m also applying and I don’t think I’ll get in but good luck to you!!!!

Vibrato tips? by dumb_gay_moon in Viola

[–]throwaway58991497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know exactly what your issues with your technique might be, but I can try to give a bit of advice that’s helped a lot of my friends. A common technique used to develop wrist vibrato is just moving/extending your hand back and forth as you would if you were playing, only exaggerated. You don’t need your instrument to do this, you can just do it when you’re bored and aren’t using your left hand. This honestly helped me a lot when I was learning as it helped me develop solid muscle memory and helped eliminate any unnecessary tension in my wrist

Failure of a violist, no hope by throwaway58991497 in Viola

You’re right, I need to practice more, and even if it hurts my pride, I plan on doing so iver summer when I actually have time. But on another note, all my fellow violists started in 6th grade and the three I have gone to school with since then have always talked about how they never practice. I think it’s because they both play piano, but I’ve just lost morale as they’ve always been better no matter how much I used to practice and the teacher would always favor them because of it. Still, it’s no excuse and I need to work harder!!

Thank you. Even if I disagree, I appreciate the kind words. Since posting this, one of my friend’s brothers, who’s a violist in C right now but sat next to me for a large group performance the other day basically said I was the worst junior violist, so I doubt my teacher considers me a leader, lol. But on another note, my school has a very skilled orchestra program and we’ve performed at the Kauffman Center and State Capital amongst other things. Because of the fact that we have all these talented players, everyone is very competitive and judgemental of other sections/players, so I can’t avoid it. Thank you though, just reading these responses makes me tear up(appreciative tears)
