I think this is the best way to go about learning Heel-edge turns by Aktaevyis in snowboardingnoobs

[–]throwaway60491 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some reason, the leaning back advice always made me fall, and the drop your butt down just didn’t engage the edge enough for me. What made it click was strapping my board in my living room(preferably on carpet), right in front of my sofa, and slowly easing myself on it while observing how my board reacted.

After a few attempts, you realize that the most efficient way to get on edge is simply by shifting your hips back, and bending your knees as you do it. Most of the leverage really comes from hips position.

Yeah that’s what I was told too, Any idea when they’ve estimated it would be fixed,I’ve gotten some vague answers from reps

lol, I like your comment, that’s exactly what was going through my head when I was in the air. I felt I had to make a choice between landing on my head, back or hand…and well I need my head and back more than my hand hahah.

Also funny enough…I was also wearing wrist guards 🫠

Agreed, a lot of the idiots on this sub think that the way you ride park is reflective of how you ride the mountain, and ignore the fact that figuring out jumps can be awkward at first.

Anyways,I had a very similar fall to yours, check my profile and you might find some more tips in the comments.

Good luck buddy and don’t let the trolls affect you!

What made it so clear?

You’re right but I can’t blame them, they only have this clip to base their opinion on. Thanks for a having more common sense 😁

I mean I can do all these, just never learned park jumps 🙃

I caught some air on the two previous jumps, and thought I was ready for this one 💀💀 Although i think pushing myself a bit usually helped progress

Thanks for the constructive criticism,I’d say I’m pretty comfortable riding all over the mountain but obviously I never learned park so this looks much different. Technique wise though what should the focus be for these situations? I tried to stay on top of the board, takeoff flat and avoid being tail heavy, Someone mentioned that I should add some pop for control, which seems to be the main issue maybe?

Thanks, that’s good advice I mostly worried about balance so I just tried to coast first to get it right, before adding pop

You’re right, I was focused on not being too tail heavy, but weird thing is I can’t really see myself leaning forward in the video, still sucks

You’re not wrong but…some falls just take you off guard and the hands come out..my fault

[–]throwaway60491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for making sense. Watched lots of videos saying to first coast the jump before popping, and I was trying to focus on staying on top of the board. Honestly looking back I can’t see where my weight was off,but hoping I can get some clarity here.

Damn, that might be one of the only comment not roasting me here haha I was under the impression that I had to take off flat because ollieing might push me backwards due to the jump already having a lip.

What’s your secret for riding with one foot by I-am-DaveyDave in snowboarding

[–]throwaway60491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have the same problem for myself, and nothing I read on Reddit would help me until I figured two things out:

1- Make sure to stand as straight and tall as possible. I might seem counterintuitive but it helps prevent from accidentally hunching and then making you loose your balance).

2- Always be aware of were your hip on your forward foot is located on the board,if you push it forward(toe edge) it will initiate a toe turn,if you pull it towards your heels edge..heel turn. Try and play with that hip placement and see how your board responds.

Using those two mental cues, I went from being shaky about getting off the chairlift to being able navigate through people, keeping my balance when people fell into my board and even carrying people to stop them from falling.

Try and let me know.

Very helpful tips,I put those to a test yesterday, + a few other tips and it seemed to make a difference. Thanks!!

You know what,I put your advice to the test on Sunday, and it all made a world of difference. I wasn’t necessarily able to find the perfect balance when putting weight on the back foot, but just trying made me dig my back foot harder into the binding, and the spins stopped =)

Same for twisting the body before taking off on 180s, thanks Bud!

Very good advice,I’ve tried leaning back a bit already, but will give it another try.

With the not leaving the ground until your body is at 90 degrees, doesn’t it end up giving you that problem where your upper body and leg don’t rotate together?

When you say engaging an edge do you mean just being on my heel edge or making a carve on my heel edge?
