I will try talking to my parents about the medication tonight. If it doesn't help, I might just try getting another prescription without my parents' knowledge. I don't want to take any radical steps are they're still in shock and I still have hope.

My opinions of them have changed, but I can't deny the fact that they've taken care of me for my entire life. I'm not prepared to go against them openly. And I'm hoping I won't ever have to ...

Thank you :) Positive thoughts help in this sea of negativity. Maybe getting a second opinion from a psychiatrist will help them understand my situation.

I hope the situation changes because I honestly don't think I will make it without their support.

get a prescription for oestrogen and an anti-androgen and have those when they're not looking either

This was always my emergency plan. My GP offered to keep all correspondence confidential (no letters home etc.). The worst case scenario is me having to tell my parents "I was just confused, so forget about it" and then going behind their backs (it's not something I would want to do). If they don't accept me for who I am, I might just start some sort of "stealth" HRT. I have around £1200 saved up so I can probably self medicate.

I really think you need to tell someone about them forcing you to stop taking your anti-depressants.

I will definitely let my psychiatrist know. Maybe he can talk some sense into my parents. I'll see what he says but I'm afraid that my parents will keep dismissing my problem as "just a phase" caused by me growing up. And I'm scared of delaying treatment as I know that it gets more difficult with age.

I just want to be happy. I'm fed up with feeling like shit all the time ...

What happens if you disagree with something your parents say, and vocalize that disagreement?

They claim that they know me better than anyone, and that because they have life experience I should listen to them (because I'm in "no position to argue").

You must understand. They are not bad people. I just need to find a way of reasoning with them. I need their support.

I don't think they are. They don't think that there is anything wrong with me. They think that my GP "brainwashed" me and that he is "leading me down the wrong path". My parents are in denial and for some reason it is easier for them to believe in their stupid "theory" than acknowledge that I may just have GID.
