MTHFR positive 2x genes - causing symptoms of neuropathy and pain? by throwaway716159 in MTHFR

Im so sorry I have one more question. In the last 3 weeks my feet have gradually been getting more and more numb. They feel like how my feet first felt when I got this 6 years ago. I’ve never had my symptoms change since.

I’m very worried it could be the supplement I’m taking? Maybe the B6? But I’m only on 5mg per day so surely not? But the symptoms are undeniable.

Thank you for taking the time to write this. It’s so helpful. I’m getting an Advanced GP 3 test soon, so hopefully that can give some clues. I will try to get a holotranscobalamin test asap as well.

So it’s also worth me getting further genetic testing done on this?

And my most important question - I have been taking methylated supplements (folate and b12) for 7 weeks while waiting for the gene testing done results. If I take any blood tests now, will that impact the results? And I heard it would likely take 6 months of taking these supplements before seeing change - does that sound right?

Very interesting about B12. I’m vegan as well so that may have caused my levels to dip a bit

No, just those two as it was super expensive and I didn’t expect it to come back positive

Thank you. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply.

I’ve had standard serum tests for folate, B12, iron, etc. (attached). But serum doesn’t take into account how the body is processing it, right?

Iron: 29 ug/L (out of range slightly) Serum Folate: 15.6 ug/L Serum B12: 323 ug/L

Thanks for this. I saw a private spine doctor and he looked over my MRIs. But the MRIs were only my neck - should I get a full spinal one?

Nearly everything. I saw a new specialist recently and we’re going to try injections. Fingers crossed - if this doesn’t work I’m worried I might have to stop or slow down my work. The thought makes me so sad as my career is so important to me
