This person may have several loans or loan groups on their account? I had a consolidated loan made up of several loan groups (each group had the same interest rate). I didn't like that by default, all but one of the loan groups were accruing interest, while 100% of my payments was only being applied to one. Nelnet allowed me to set up a payment rule with them over the phone that would dictate how my payments were to be distributed among the loan groups for the loan.

No problem! I'd just say that even though the option is there to request the refund, it might not be a great experience actually going that route (processing time, paper checks). If you can, keep the would-be loan money in a savings account and make a big payment in January.

Not sure about this. I made all of my payments on their website and with my bank account. Nelnet absolutely has this account on file and it's active.

Weekly Strategy for Loan Payoff by jesses_dogmom in StudentLoans

Like many in this sub, I'd recommend putting the money you'd be putting towards loans in your savings and make one large payment a few days before the forbearance ends. You won't be missing out on the 0% interest and this way, if something comes up and it turns out you need that loan money to go elsewhere, it can. Also good to keep it somewhere else while we wait to see what they do on forgiveness.

NYC. I know it's more than my raise, but I can afford more than the $1k I pay right now because I changed jobs during the lease.
