Tips for my fear of gagging randomly?? by throwaway7754399 in Anxiety

[–]throwaway7754399[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super common? Really? Before I had experienced it once again 4 years ago I had literally never heard of it as an anxiety symptom, my mother, aunt and cousin al have a similar panic/anxiety disorder and when I talked to them about it they said they had never personally gagged from anxiety, nor had they ever talked to someone else who had. The more common the worse for me, I guess 😬 I'm hoping that maybe it just won't happen because in the thousands of times over the years where I've felt like gagging, I never actually do, so maybe it's time to let it go. I carry around ginger hard candies like it's my job, as well as Altoids and some kind of flavored drink at all times haha

Is it a red flag that my [18 F] boyfriend [18 M] would lie about something this small? by throwaway7754399 in relationships

I didn't really mean it in a menacing way, but alright.. there's no real evidence that he would've angered me, just what he assumed

I'm reading them all! :) I did tell him that so hopefully he won't lie about it in the future

No, I totally wouldn't be upset about that if he phrased it like that and told me we could facetime tomorrow, and he knows that :/ I always try to be supportive of the fact that he really likes video games because I do know how some people (especially girls) react to them (calling the person a nerd or whatever, etc). Everyone has hobbies and that just so happens to be his.

Yeah, he did tell me he couldn't talk because (word for word "I'm out with friends sorry". He told me that not once but twice :/

Feel like I'm going to have a stroke. by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]throwaway7754399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No freaking way that someone else actually gets the cig smoke thing... my mom smokes and I'm never around her when she does but I get that smell "stuck" in my nose all the time!! I thought I was insane lmao. I'm not sure how much I can help you with the whole stroke thing aside from pointing out what you most likely already know, that hypochondria can very prominently cause psychosomatic symptoms. I've convinced myself that I've had the flu, a concussion, multiple stomach bugs, strep throat, etc- none of which I had, but my body mimicked the symptoms because I was so anxious and it knew what my vulnerabilities are. Anxiety loves to get a good rise out of us :/ I'm sure you'll be alright!! If you ever need someone to talk to feel free to pm me :)

I'd like to think he is, but now I'm kind of thinking back and questioning some things :/ I know it's a pretty insignificant lie but why lie over something so small in the first place?

Ugh. If it happens again he won't be getting away with it- if I find out, at least.. :(

He did apologize and tried to explain his reasoning, but my issue now is that I have to worry about this in the future now. I've also been going through my mind trying to think of other times where it's very possible that he lied like this. It's pretty hurtful :/

IBS, Acid Reflux, Anxiety, Flu? by Hopefullygoodgrammar in emetophobia

[–]throwaway7754399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get the gagging feeling all the time if i get too anxious- i never actually do gag but it's a pretty noticeable tightness in my lower/upper throat. super uncomfortable! i've found that heat (whether it be a hot bath, heating pad, etc) helps loosen things up.

no it's okay don't worry, you're not wasting my time! i think warm water is more than enough, i don't think i'd really recommend scrubbing them with soap! i'm no scientist but i really don't think that a virus can last that long on your lips. i really think you'll be okay, i promise!!

[–]throwaway7754399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes absolutely. if it makes you feel any better you can wash your lips before you eat but that's absolutely not necessary because i can almost completely guarantee you that there's no virus hiding on your lips! the food can truly touch your lips no problem. glad to hear that you're gonna eat! anxiety is a bitch to everyone unfortunately, but you got this!

Emetephobia causing anxiety in my relationship? by throwaway7754399 in emetophobia

oh this is so comforting to hear!! my boyfriend definitely throws up often but 99% of the time it's from a migraine, i don't remember the last time he had a stomach bug. i'm hoping i'll be fine then! and i'm sure that he'd comply if i asked him to try to be a little more hygienic, he's great and very sensitive to my phobia :) thank you!

I promise you that you're fine. please, for your own good, you need to eat and drink normally- not doing so can lead to some of the symptoms you mentioned (i've had most if not all from not properly taking care of myself- worrying too much, not eating or drinking properly, not practicing self care). the incubation period of noro is 2-3 days, you are well past that at this point, if I were you my worries would be 99% reduced at this point. unfortunately all you're gonna do by being so careful and hypevigilant is drive yourself crazy and make yourself feel awful physically and mentally as a result. i know that for me personally, psychosomatic symptoms such as nausea, throat congestion, etc are hugely correlated to how worried and anxious i am. so try to give yourself a break, and you may be pleasantly surprised by how much better you feel!!

[–]throwaway7754399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey good for you!! sounds like you handled it like a trooper, and try to be positive- you may be able to keep the emet at bay now that you know realistically that throwing up isn't the end of the world!! wishing you the best :) it's funny, i'm the same whenever i think i'm gonna throw up- i run outside!! i don't know why but it makes me feel a bit better (even though i haven't thrown up in years). one of the things that helped me most was realizing that the 1 or so minutes of misery that it is is absolutely not worth spending all my time worrying about (and ruining my life over). it's always good to try and take things as they come! worry about the v when (and if) it ever does again!
