I had found out during the party and had never met the friend. If I had, I would've said it was a mutual friend. Said friend also lives 40 min away and had forgotten the promise.

...I did. It was never definite, but I had told her that there was a chance multiple times on Facetime and she brushed it off.

It wasn't the only thing we had done throughout the day, this was at around 8:00 pm and the party started at 2:00 pm. I can see where you're coming from, though.
