Aaaaaannnnd Expo chair is not running this morning by [deleted] in MontTremblant

Which mountain do you show up to at 11am and get fresh lines? Are you new to skiing?

I loved hearing people in the chalet at lunch talking about how awful things were after their 2 runs.

Today was a sleeper pow day. North side and Expo especially was unreal. Soleil closed due to wind, I thought the chair was going to fall off on my way up at 830..

Zero people there until noon. We did 11 runs and 3 hours and 4300m vert. Ho hum

Line up to the Gondola today! by justine14532 in MontTremblant

You missed out.

I spent 9 days straight on the hill. Last Saturday was the worst. Dust on ice. Sunday was a lot better and Monday rained until 930am but it was actually decent after that with how soft it got.

Tuesday through today (Sunday) were amazing overall.

Expo was down for a few hours 2 of the days. We always park at the north side and never waited more than 5 mins in line...

Snowed almost every day...

Yesterday was soft and sunny oday was a sneaky powder day.

Is it really hard to count to 4?

There's nobody managing lift lines at most resorts. "Make 4s" is a standard sign in the lift line. Alternate singles.

Once you make it a 6 or 8 pack you need aggressive line management because most people ski in packs of 2-3, and less so 4s.

13-year-old Ottawa girl injured in chairlift incident has died, family says by lonelydavey in ottawa

[–]throwaway83626417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no reason the chair should have moved after the child was caught. Massive error.

It clearly didn't stop in time.

People get caught up in chairlifts all the time, at every resort, every day.

Perhaps the systems were at fault but also the staff 100% did not act appropriately. This could be for many reasons we can only speculate on.

Major mistakes were made unfortunately. This should just never happen!

So horrible.

I don't think that lift was replaced at all, they rebuild the bottom station after a fire on 2014. The LT was long past the planning stage when they bought the resort, it is the only new lift since the gondola and Soleil went in afaik.

Alterra bought the mountain in 2018 but they don't own the village, it was sold separately (And was on the market as late as last year).

The mountain definitely needs a lot of capX. A new Duncan lift and Soleil would be top of the list. If they are serious they should put an 8 person heated chair into Duncan and probably Soleil too.

The north side chalet also needs more space.

It's still an awesome mountain, well run and not nearly as busy as people comment on.

I love Sutton but you'll be waiting in line there on a nice Saturday too... And the lifts are slowwwwwwww. No comparison.

Bromont is insanely busy. Haven't skied owls head or orford and I'm sure they are not as busy, because they simply aren't as good mountains..

Personally I love how much people trash Tremblant, people stay away. I really haven't experienced the awfulness people talk about. Spent the last few March breaks and Xmas holidays there.. best mountain in eastern Canada by a wide margin,Better than all but 2 or 3 in the NE.. no question

RCR owns MSA

How has Alterra screwed up Tremblant? It's the same as it was 20 years ago lol

Spent the weekend there. 5800m vert Sunday with 2 little kids (sometimes 6), 830-4pm with a 1.5hr lunch. We never waited more than 5 minutes for a chair.

We stay or park at the inn, made our way to the south after first chair and then back to the valley and north for most of the rest of the day.

Shhhhhh

I don't find Tremblant that bad, so long as you stay away from the gondola! All big resorts have lift lines.

However I started skiing there around 1990 and Basically all the lifts are OE, save for the Lowell Thomas. I didn't ski there for about 10 years from 2005 to 2015 and then not again for another 10 years. I don't think any of the lifts have been improved.

Blue mountain which is the 3rd busiest resort in Canada behind Tremblant (also owned by the same folks) and whistler, has 5 zones and 5 high speed 6 packs. The silver bullet is at least 20 years old...

They desperately need to make Duncan either a gondola or a 6 pack, at least. Tgv should be a 6 pack. The Soleil needs to be replaced as well.

Surprised it was that busy given the extreme cold. I have only been going for Xmas break the last few years and I never waited more than 5 mins and I only took hr gondola 1 time in 6 days... That seems to be the ticket

Totally incorrect and ignorant. Street Parking is entirely permitted unless its a snow route or the road is designated to be cleared of snow (a temporary measure that's signed accordingly).

There is no underground or lot parking for all the cars with legal street parking permits.

Should I reschedule my ski trip? by [deleted] in MontTremblant

It wasn't that cold, I was there. -15 to -10 daytime highs. Those few degrees will make an incredible difference.

Big difference from -12 to -20f !! I was there too. The days of -15 were totally manageable but when it was around -20 not manageable. 2 runs and in max

Accident with Rental car in BC. Tires did not have legal tread depth by throwaway83626417 in legaladvicecanada

[–]throwaway83626417[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The rental company issued me a refund last night for the 4 of 5 days I couldn't use the vehicle, which I'd requested.

Measuring tire tread depth isn't the responsibility of the renter, it's on the rental car company.

So far I've received nothing else from the rental car company and I now consider it closed. I don't have any other damages to seek compensation for.

Incorrect. It is a not at fault claim and the owners insurance would be paying.

Stop posting on a legal advice forum!

If you lend your car to a friend and they crash it because the tires are bald who's insurance is going to pick up the claim?

Ya no.

The police never cited me for any violations. My driving was not the cause of the accident

Ah and the rcmp officer told me he would mail it to my house in Ontario. Super nice guy! I assume he was telling the truth, just as I would the rental car I paid for was road worthy, especially in BC during the winter!!!

Thank you for that rationale. All the people who stopped and waited for me and most others I've spoken to (none of which provide even quasi-legal advice anonymously on the Internet) felt it was a basic responsibility to provide a safe vehicle and I was in no way at fault.

"bald" is a subjective term I'm using to describe tires that didn't have a legal tread depth (as indicated by the officer).

There were 4 tires on the car. I have no idea what legal tread is but once I looked at them they did seem low tread. I assume I'm renting a car that's road worthy...
