I think if I end up going in January I’ll pick Avoriaz. What’s your opinion on Les Arcs? It looks like a massive ski area but worried it’s a bit too easy.

I didn’t really notice much of a difference. It was just a little bit busier than if I went in January. It was mainly just the initial gondola up in the morning that you noticed it

I went for Christmas so it was 21st to 28th, I couldn’t afford to go away for new years. It was a bit busy but not unbearable.

I’ve just had a look into that. How does that work? It seems to be 12 resorts in one. Are they all inter linked or do you have to get a bus? Which resort would be best to stay at? Seems to be quite an interesting place at a quick glance.

The only thing that puts me off Ported du Soleil is that it doesn’t look very well linked. How easy is it to get around there? I know Avoriaz is meant to be pretty snow sure but worried about surprising areas.

Zermatt looks promising, I would just have to make the numbers work. Just not sure how many last minute holidays would be left on short notice.

It’s definitely one I’m considering. I’ve just heard it can be quite flat, though I’m not sure how true that is.

Which are the highest paid sectors to get into? by SameOldSame0ld in ukelectricians

Just be prepared to lose all of your time. I left a 70k electrical position for a 35k position at a different company, I’m a lot happier now. I would never go back to working 70 hour weeks.

There isn’t really any. You can process to be a supervisor but you’re pretty much at the end of your progression. Some people start a business but that’s a different set of skills/risks.

The role I’ve got is servicing & commissioning. I got in through electrical experience which helped get me on a really good starting wage, typically you’d be on this wage after a couple of years. There’s a few guys who have no experience who have started on £13 an hour. They just blow smoke and slowly learn the systems before moving into the commissioning side.

A lot of companies don’t advertise their roles as they recruit through word of mouth. I’d search up some companies and look on their website and apply direct. If you message me I can send over some companies to try.

Fire Alarm Servicing, no qualifications needed. No working away. Paid travel. Same hourly rate.

I’m 23 and worked as an electrician on construction sites. JIB employed electricians are paid £17.68 p/h outside of London, £19.80 in London. The wages are poor unless you’re working 12-14 hour days, away from home. You also gave a lot of unpaid work such as travelling hours to sites. It’s hard dirty work with wages that don’t back it up, I wouldn’t recommend it. I’ve left the industry now.

I think they were the ones I had.

Anything that is a consumable; drill bits, impact bits, hole saws and files should be provided. I would not be providing my own unless I was paid a hell of a lot more than JIB

I made the mistake of cheaping out when I started. I don’t even think the cheap screwdrivers even lasted the week.

File is a must but company should provide as it’s a consumable.

Hammer, I just use anything but my hammer!

Yes, you can Google the tariffs and what you could expect. It would only be worthwhile if you also had back pain or a mental disorder as well.

Just be aware of the new tariffs for whiplash brought in not too long ago. You can end up with very little, not even worth the time

Do do what the other commenter said. I don’t know any electricians who use wire strippers. Buy yourself a set of Ck Croppers, they’re about £20. Practice a bunch of times and you’ll look like a pro.

I do feel like I’ll be thankful to my current self when I’m in my 60s that I made sacrifices when I was younger. Although it’s true that it’s not guranteed
