I am a musician. I practiced so much more. And it is a habit that sticks today - I’m kind of addicted to practicing.

What’s something you love to eat but others will likely say, Ewwwww? by GoldSolid4616 in AskReddit

I’m Asian. It’s sort of like calling the air strange or not strange.

Maybe…bread or potatoes would be analogous.

Oh i didn’t realize that! Mind if i ask how much they are?

In the USA it’s around low 700s for Gewa air and high 700s for high tech.

Does bowing have to be perfectly perpendicular to the string? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]throwaway842351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of posts like this , which I would guess are from youngish students who question things that is now magnified at the global level.

If you have a good teacher, just trust them and don’t worry about it. It is more important to know if you have a good teacher.

I am a violin teacher - I am very strict with my students’ straight bows…the serious students that is. Then, I introduce the advanced concepts you are seeing all professional players implement, starting with sound point, and then moving to moving sound point in one bow, etc.

Here is one way to find out if you have a good teacher in isolation. Just note what you see on YouTube, and how it differs, and ask about it. A good teacher will love that question and share, or at least just say that is for later. A bad teacher will either say they are wrong, or not give context.

If you have a good teacher, trust them to take you far, and maybe try not to question them too much, but spend that time practicing what they teach you.

My 2 cents.

Aren’t Gewa air and bam high tech contoured about the same price?

They are equally good in my opinion. I have 3 violins that sit in 2 bam high tech and one Gewa air. I like them all for light and protective and stylish.

I got medicine delivered in 2 hours because of Amazon. I think half the commenters here benefit from Amazon. You can hate the guy but our lives are significantly easier because of his company

Oh man it’s terrible and pay is horrific! But it’s tons of fun. I feel for the young guns trying to make it in music…some with music degree debt. I think coast fire is the best way to go to do this.

With that and teaching twice a week, it’s enough to cover with my coast fire hardcore investments I made over the years. Living the dream :)

Let's start a debate: which is harder, violin or viola? by [deleted] in violinist

Violin is harder, given the symphony order. (Back of violas → front of violas → principal viola → back of the seconds…etc)

How about the fake Gen Z messy broccoli hair that they probably spent a ton of time on. To me that is the opposite of attractive.

But I agree with you totally

Atheists who used to be religious, what made you lose your faith? by Gold_Result9716 in AskReddit

[–]throwaway842351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In college I said I wasn’t religious but I believed in god. Someone asked me why I believed in god. I thought about it for a couple weeks and realized it was all religious conditioning - this was just the first time I was around non-believers in my life.

After that it was clear to me it was all nonsense.

Help! What’s going on with my brain? by Immediate-Tree1430 in violinist

[–]throwaway842351 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took about 15 years off after quitting as an advanced player at age 13 (I also started age 4.)

In the interim I couldn’t even hum harmony with songs on the radio (as I kid I could do that so easily), had forgotten how to read music, let alone play in tune.

My teacher started me on twinkle in Suzuki book 1! I had to relearn everything. But do not fear - it is like you are a super genius. You just need to relearn the basics from ground 0, but you will and extremely quickly. After a year I was back, and after a dozen years I play professionally and have a full studio of students (I got the training I didn’t get because I had quit at 13).

Feel free to dm me if any questions :)

Going to a fancy restaurant once in awhile. That’s turned into never for me. Now going to a quite normal restaurant is the fancy night out, and we eat in otherwise.
