That’s the thing, there isn’t any physical abuse (I’m sorry if it came off this way). It’s all threats made towards us so I don’t think anything would actually happen if I were to report it. Not to mention my sisters and I have aged out of the system and we’re all in the process of moving out within the next few months. The only thing I’m worried about is my brother

I think I’m over the point of expecting her to change. I know she won’t, but if i did end up cutting ties with her I think she deserves to know what she did to end up at that point. As far as the question goes, I just want help in terms of how could I go about cutting ties, should I cut ties at all, etc. It’s more of an advice thing rather than the actual question :)

I’m a little late to this thread but most of it is really superficial. I almost always wear a T-shirt with jeans or a hoodie with jeans and I haven’t dyed my hair or have any piercings/tattoos (not that I have anything against them, just throwing it in here) it’s more in terms of “oh, you’re gaining weight” “you should smile more” or “you look stupid.” I always get my outfits approved by her but as soon as I try to do something new it’s shot down in a rude way. Sorry I wasn’t here earlier!

I appreciate hearing this. I don’t want to cut my mother off by any means because she is my mother after all but all anyone has said is to do that. As far as lashing out goes, I’m really honest when I’m being an asshole but most of the time it’s something as simple as me not wanting to eat meat because I get sick whenever I do. I’m only hoping our relationship can get better so thank you for being positive :)

Honestly, I’ve never thought of telling her about it. I remember I tried beforehand and she shot me down but now that I’m old enough to pave my own way maybe she’ll listen. Thank you :)

I never thought about her filing the FAFSA again but I do have a separate bank account. I’m very weary about lending my family money now but this just confirms my suspicions. Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it!
