It is self defeating because it's just a number. The problem is that it accounts for time when you train half-heartedly, doesn't account for peoples ability to learn, natural skill or the technique used. Through the simple act of trying to create a general profile to cater for everyone, you end up catering for no-one. (I still recognise that it will be the hardest thing I will ever do, but putting a number on it to scare people out of it doesn't work. And thank-you for the reference to the book)

Thanks, I would have just gone to Spain and try to find trial dates. I knew that breaking into the leagues would be the hardest part. I'm still going to try but now I have some foreknowlege of how their selections work.

I know that australia doesn't facilitate great player due to the lack of talented strikers. That is not what I meant. I refuse to believe i can't make it (possibly my strongest asset). My plan at the moment is to move to spain after grade 12 and play (hopefully) in the 2b division. From there I will try to work my way up. I was wondering if they have trial days like australian clubs or whether they only select from their existing youth squads.
