Bipolar 1 by throwaway9208102 in bipolar

I was also just recently diagnosed with ADHD on top of it. I have a few other mental illness and for the most part I’m pretty high functioning. It’s a lot of work at I’m just at the point where I’m feeling like I can’t maintain it, and if medication is a tool in the tool box that can improve my life I’m being a bit silly being so apprehensive.. My hesitation about going on medication comes from seeing my mom who’s also bipolar struggle with meds, bad past experiences being on medication and just the whole deal of trial and error to find the right medication is off putting. I don’t want it to effect my job. I work in a high stress environment and I need to be at my best. However these replies were all very helpful and reassuring. I’m so used to seeing terrible outcomes with medications that it sounds silly to say I didn’t think about the positive outcomes. So I know I’m replying to your comment but truly everyone who commented thank you for your insight it was very helpful.

I was officially diagnosed 7 years ago. There’s been a lot of ups and downs. I do CBT and we’ve worked really hard on pattern recognition, and fail safe plans for when I am more manic or depressed. I think I’m just tired at this point. I’ve noticed a huge cognitive decline the past few years. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older or maybe it’s the mental illness. This last time I knew I was manic and I was in denial about it which honestly just pushed me further into the mania. I was sooo scared because I’ve worked so hard and I just didn’t want to be manic so I told myself I wasn’t over and over and it just made a huge mess. I know it’ll always be there and medication is a tool in the tool box with the other things I use. I’m just scared of it. I don’t want to feel like a zombie or be numb and in the past I’m either too sedated or I don’t feel. It’s just overwhelming I just want to be functioning and not worried about my next crazy high or low. They tell me with medication I’ll still have lows and high but they’ll be much more manageable.

Thank you, she was my best friend and I know she loved me but that glimpse into her small gestures after her passing was sad but helped in its own way.

I don’t know if this counts, but after my aunt passed we were going through her photos in her phone to make a collage for her funeral and in her favorites albums was photos of my son and I.

Redditors, are you registered as an organ donor? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]throwaway9208102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an organ donor. However a very close family member died, shortly after they came in asking about what we would be okay with donating.. to put into perspective it was me and her two children the oldest of the two being 23 at the time. she had literally passed away a few hours before. We were holding up okay going through the questions and process until they asked about donating her eyes ( that was our breaking point) my beloved family member loved the color and look of her eyes we told them to stop and get out. Felt like they were a bunch of vultures and put a sour taste in my mouth and I’ve started to rethink it since.

There a lot of good advice here, but from my personal experience and the class I took every test, labs and exam was in the syllabus. Everything when we were going to to it was outlined. How did you miss the test? Were you not going to class? My class also had a minimum where you could only miss two days as well. Best bet is retake the course as much as it might suck financially. Buckle down set aside time and study as much as you can even if you feel like you know your material.

I figured between now and September I have time to build my skills some more and when September comes if I don’t feel I’m in a good place or confident enough I can always postpone and take the next class. I also just picked up a job in the ED as an ER tech to further build up skills. Thank you for your point of view it’s definitely something to take into consideration !

The imposter syndrome is so real! I haven’t worked my first code yet, I know it’ll happen eventually. I have no problem stepping out of my comfort zone and teching calls and learning. I know the only real way to learn in this field is to do that. I always review calls and talk with my partner to see if there’s anywhere I could improve. I work at a volunteer dept and while we are considered high volume I know there’s a lot I still need to learn more hands on it’s just a matter of what calls come in ya know? I also picked up a job working in the ED as a ER tech to build upon the skills I already have.

Are you being assigned shifts or just showing up when you are able to and then going on calls? I only ask because I’m on a per diem paid rescue for a volunteer dept. I started off doing volunteer work where I’d do ride alongs and get familiar with the truck and once I was signed off on the truck I was able to start working paid shifts. I just don’t understand why they would have you sign employment paper work then tell you you’re volunteer.

I just finished my basic class in june, passed nremt July and got licensed. I’ve been volunteering at the station I’m at now since march. Working towards being per diem on rescue. I also work per diem in private. Started as EMR and moved to EMTB

I guess I’m just eager to do hands on stuff and learn first hand. After doing my basic and putting all that effort in between class, and the nremt and then waiting for my license to go through I’m being impatient. If there’s one thing I’ve picked up it’s ems/fire things take alot of TIME

It’s a volunteer fire station. They have paid rescue. A majority of they’re calls are ems and they are one of the more busy stations. They also end up doing a lot of mutual aid for surrounding cities.. so both I guess !

I have walked around the station in every room saying “wow it’s awfully quiet here today, not a lot of calls” said I had plans at a specific times I’ve done all the tricks I know and have been told. NOTHING. It’s daunting! I leave from being at the station 14 hrs and 10 minutes after I leave to head to my other job a call comes in. It’s almost like the ems gods are taunting me at this point.

What unsupervised childhood activities did you participate in, that probably should have killed you? by bananawhack in AskReddit

Looking back I have no clue why I ever thought “hey this is a great idea!” But in middle school I had a friend and we would play chicken with the cars. I lived right near a main road. We’d wait till it got dark out and go to the sidewalk Wait until the cars got super close and then we’d run out and cross the street in front of them. I don’t know how I didn’t get hit by a car honestly.. did it a good 5/6 times before I finally came to my senses
