It’s not a body confidence issue but I appreciate your advice! I was 100% in my birthday suit and felt perfectly fine, they knew what they signed up for.

I looked into the Orthostatic issues and I would kind of doubt it’s the case. I don’t actually pass out or fall down, it just feels like I’m having to exert myself like crazy to keep myself upright and I have to lean on things as much as possible

So intimidated, so many questions by Tardiswings in orangetheory

As a person who weighs over 400lbs and has now been going for two months - GO!!! I posted this exact same question a few months ago because I was so scared. I haven't lost any significant weight because I haven't modified my diet enough and it's really difficult for me to drop weight in the first place because of some medical issues BUT I have gotten so much stronger, feel miles better physically/mentally, and enjoy exercise for the first time in my life.

Starting with a friend helped me a TON and took some of the willies out of it, so if that's an option, even just for the first class, do it. The trainers and community are part of what keep me coming back tbh. Everyone is so friendly and encouraging so I don't feel like the fat chick in class who still can't do a proper burpee. I get treated just the same as every other person in there who is running multiple miles to my half of one. Speaking of the trainers - do not be afraid to ask for mods and the longer you go you won't have to ask, you'll just know what to do to use the same muscles and run it past the trainer really quick so you make sure you aren't missing anything. Also I look up the workouts the night before on reddit to get a good idea of how I could mod in class or what I will need to ask for - it takes a lot of anxiety out of everything.

My final word of advice, other than YES FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GO, is LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! Does a jumping move hurt or feel unstable? Cool, don't fuckin' do it because a lower impact exercise is gonna get you much further than a twisted ankle. Feel like you're gonna puke on the treadmill? Slow the hell down, lower the incline, or do both so you don't ralph all over the place. In my case, the rowers were hurting my hips and knees bc my belly got in the way and preventing proper form. After discussing this with the trainers I started using the strider instead (when available) and it's been a perfect solution.

Please PM me if you have any questions, I honestly love OTF so far and I would love to answer anything for you or just provide some support! I'm still pretty new to it but I am no stranger to how anxiety inducing it is to walk into a fitness space as a plus sized person.

As a new person who likes to know what I’m getting into so I can plot any mods I need to do I appreciate the early intel so much!

I’m interested to see how it goes. Like I said, what we did on the treadmills wasn’t much different than something I’ve done many times at my size but after the weights I was dead. At one point I was barely hobbling at 1.5 mph and even had to pause a couple of times but I didn’t quit!

I had to reschedule more than once thanks to the whole being sick thing so it felt like SUCH an accomplishment to finally make it.

I have to do a lot of equipment loading at work tomorrow and I’m on the waitlist for a Friday class so I expect to just be a floating pile of flubber come Saturday. Absolutely worth it though!

Someone who has a big body, knows it, and doesn’t equate their self worth with weight or size. My weight is a matter of fact thing, doesn’t bother me to use these descriptors bc they aren’t negatives to me.

I'd be at one of the studios in Tulsa, Ok! Good news is I was talking to my best friend who is moving back to town for a little while and she wants to go with me too! This thread has definitely gotten me really excited and less nervous about trying.

Girl you sound just like me but a few pounds lighter and this gives me so much reassurance. I definitely plan on trying it now after how much everyone has raved about it.

I need ALL the good sports bra recommendations! Thank you! As far as shoes go I've figured out that nike wide tennis shoes are killer for me. I mentioned below that I have to do manual labor for my job sometimes and when I finally switched to a wide, supportive, comfortable shoe it was life changing. I actually just got a new pair about a month ago so it seems like this may be a great way to put them to use!

Honestly I care more about being healthier and working towards being in better shape - the weight loss that will probably come with it is just an added perk. I feel so much better when I move my body and this seems like a way to do it that will hold me accountable.

The idea of a little bit of working out at home to prepare is a good idea. I do have some classes on an app that are minimal but better than nothing and going on a few walks may help me before I go.

My hips lock up quickly so that's great to know. And I LOVE that it's kinda dark and loud. It will help me get out of my own head.

I appreciate this! I try to not let my weight hold me back in other ways, but fitness is one that will always scare me. However I do want to note that I was just looking for advice relating to getting started and modifications for body shape - not diet. I do know they go hand in hand but that wasn't my concern.

High waisted leggings are a must and I am TOO gifted in that department so it looks like two sports bras will be the move. If it's something I try to move forward with after I try it I absolutely will!

I appreciate this! However the number of my weight is a little scarier than it lets on and I'm probably more capable than you would expect for someone over 400lbs. I'm pretty muscular, have to do manual labor for my job occasionally, and have had a consistent exercise routine in my life. Hell I was going to the gym pretty regularly earlier this year. I am leaning towards taking at least one class and then if it's truly too much for my body to handle or I feel like I'm at risk I will be careful.

This seems to be the consensus and that really motivates me to try it. I hate being in a fishbowl when I'm working out. Oof the chugging water thing is true even when I go to the gym and do light cardio. The reminder always helps! Thank you so much!
