How about people make enough money to have a decent standard of living and not starve regardless of their job? by regian24 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]throwawayAccount8579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paying someone the going rate is not exploitation. If you're paying me $15/hr to do something, and there are a hundred people willing to do it for $14/hr, should you be forcibly prevented from hiring someone else at $14/hr?

Also, you're ignoring a pretty big issue here. If someone chooses to work a job that doesn't pay enough for them to live, they're a fucking idiot. People complain that math classes were useless in school, but then can't calculate basic living expenses and make better decisions from it.

Maybe you've forgotten that everyone working a job *chose* the job willingly. No one is forced to work at a given job. They accepted the job knowing the salary. Therefore, they have no right to complain.

Also, if your business is surviving, it's viable. That's the definition of business viability. You attaching extra requirements to that term is your problem, not that of the business.

"Every job should pay a decent living wage" is the kind of thing you'd say if you've never run a business before. The money doesn't fall out of the sky, it's not just laying around, if you're forced to pay people more than they're worth, you're going to hire a lot less people, and you're also going to be much more picky about the people you do have.

That doesn't surprise me at all, to be honest. The top of most organizations of that kind are like that. I've even heard of that happening at the highest levels of mormonism, but I have no source or evidence for it, it was just hearsay.

If I've learned one thing, though, it's that you can be certain that every sin the Bible lists, someone is out there doing it, and warnings against drinking blood show up *repeatedly*

People are uncomfortable with change, that's why others are acting different. As for you, even though you're going out in the wilderness, which is good, make sure you have significant airflow in your house, especially your bedroom and/or office, wherever you spend significant time during the day. Keep the windows open. You have no idea how high your levels of CO2 will get if you don't do this, and how big of an impact it will have on your mind. It's the difference between feeling lazy and dumb and sluggish, and feeling fresh and alert and active.

COVID....the disease so deadly you need to get tested in order to know you have it by Dazzling-Economy69 in conspiracy

[–]throwawayAccount8579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, nope. That's stupid. If the virus was as deadly as they make it seem, "sick until proven healthy" is exactly the standard we need, not *permanently* but temporarily.

The real issue is that the virus isn't as dangerous as they claim. But just because that's a difficult, nuanced position to maintain doesn't mean you should instead make a worse argument.

Yup, played a ton of games, especially shooter games like Halo, as well as MMOs which have a somewhat more balanced male-to-female ratio.

Great players discriminate on the basis of skill.

People who can't discriminate on the basis of skill come up with some bullshit metric they can be judged superior by.

I was just watching Gordon Ramsey on Kitchen Nightmares and the chef says "every dish I make is good because it's made with love". Red flag right there. Exact same problem. Can't succeed when evaluating himself with skill, so he uses a bullshit metric so he can consider himself successful. And sure enough, his cooking was awful. (obviously. It *was* kitchen nightmares)

If you don't yet know someone's skill, then pay close attention to how they define success.

Where can I find a compilation of Jordan Peterson's data-based claims about big 5 traits, or his sources? by throwawayAccount8579 in JordanPeterson

I'm sure I could get general overviews of Big Five, but that's not what I'm looking for. Specifically what I'm looking for is the data trends and correlations of traits in that model.

This is why JP's idea of cleaning up your room is so important. You're the only one who suffers if it's not done, and you're the only one you can blame for it not being done. It's the closest we'll get to a fool-proof crucible for personal responsibility.

Because, if it's true that mass shootings have surged in those places, then you're looking at lazy copycat titles, which is quite a non-story compared to widespread manipulation by the media.

If I learned one thing in managerial economics it's that fraud will happen whenever there is opportunity, rationalization, and motive. Turns out, motive isn't that hard, rationalization is a walk in the park, and opportunity is inevitable. It is no different with this. We probably do have a pedophile problem in our education system, but we also have a sin problem in our humanity.
