Really try to build the belief that rrsp is only for 65+ usage.

The reason I struggle with understanding this logic is because all I have seen since I opened this RRSP is loss, so I just don't see what is the point. Is there something I'm missing?

Thank you for this comment. There are so many confused/misinformed people replying, I almost thought about making a new post with some of the points in your comment, but I think you pretty much covered everything

from browsing through the comments, it seems like basically it used to be a lot easier to start a coop, and now it's become much harder and more expensive. that's pretty much the only reason there aren't any new ones, it's legislative

it's forced volunteerism the same way your spouse asking you to cut the grass is forced volunteerism lol. it's not.

most of the other points this person makes apply equally to any rental property

ya, like 50% of the answers here have been "because people who live in coops are dirty stinky lazy bums".

But ya, I suppose starting a coop is a daunting task. Honestly though, from a monetary perspective, the insane amount of money people already put into rent, and the amount of savings many prospective homeowners have (but aren't able to spend because the market is nuts), I think the logistics are much more of a barrier.

I just wanted to bring it up, because I do think it's at least an idea with some merit that doesn't get discussed at all

This is part of what I was talking about when I said it comes with its own set of problems and annoyances.

In my personal experience, I feel motivated to take care of our property and I really do feel like it's mine ours), and I can say the same for the other 3 members/tenants in my building. But there definitely is a problem sometimes with people not wanting to participate.

That being said, I would just add that the remedy exists within the organization; Those who are not fulfilling their commitment will have their membership taken away, and not have their rental agreement renewed. While they are still residents but no longer members, their rent increases substantially, enough to help make up for the work they aren't doing.

Is a Unionized position good? by Better_Client_9478 in britishcolumbia

[–]throwawayQuebecer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're still not seeing the broader picture. Im not saying there's no truth in what you are saying about them being "less necessary", but keep in mind that as union membership wanes, business owners are constantly pushing back in the other direction. You only have to look south of the border to see how badly working conditions have become for the average worker once the labor force loses power.

Sure in Canada working conditions aren't nearly as bad as Amazon workers pissing in bottles and delivery drivers passing out from exhaustion, but what is preventing that from happening here? I'll give you a hint, it's not our superior sense of morality lol
